So typical a carbon barrel is steel contoured down to a feather size contour so the barrel is still steel or stainless steel then it’s wrapped in carbon fiber making it about a bull barrel heavy contour size the carbon cuts lot of weight I have a CA barreled rifle and love it is a heavy price to pay to cut weight but my rifle weights 6.1 pounds but the barrel doesn’t heat up like a #1 contour barrel if you shoot few rounds so for me it’s an awesome shooter that’s light weight and doesn’t heat up

This all started when I decided to switch from pellets to blackhorn powder. I shot myself out of hornadys working up a load and then discovered all the stores were sold out! So I bought some t/c shockwaves in 250 grain with the mag express sabot, they were very accurate and grouped well out to 300 yards, so I was happy with them. Fast forward to the third day of my 2019 m/l elk hunt and I find a shooter bull bedded across a canyon, l creep to 290 yards and lay my crosshairs on his, take a breath and squeeze the trigger. The bull barley flinched! He and his cows looked around for a bit then went back to chewing their cud. A minute later he stood up, walked a little deeper into his tree an laid back down. We'll shoot I missed. Work my way down the hillside a little farther so I have a good line of sight on his shoulder again. 256 yards and this shot hammers him! He died in less than 10 minutes without leaving his bed. When I got to him I noticed a lump on his side, so I pulled out my knife and dug out the bullet from my first shot, completely intact, and didn't even knock the ballistic tip off. The shot was too far back, missing the vital organs. I never found the second bullet, but it took out both lungs. So my question is: has anyone else had this happen to them? Was it just a fluke or was I asking too much of it to perform at that range?

My wife just got back from the grocery store. Really not much of an issue getting food. There were a few things they didn't have but for the most part we got all our normal food. Is it particular TYPES of food or maybe particular neighborhoods/parts of town that are struggling to keep up?

Im sure glad I bought bulks of 22s back in the last ammo crisis! If things get bad I got plenty of ammo for doves in my front yard, ducks at community lakes and people pets if I have to go that route!! Ill make sure I take the liberals pets because they have nothing to shoot back at me with.

Been wanting to buy a new pistol.for a while. This scare got my wife to actually ask ME to go buy a new pistol! So I got two!

I have a #3 Bartlein 5R 26" barrel on my semi custom Rem 700 and the same spec Proof barrel would be almost a 1/4 lb lighter. That is pretty appealing to me. The gun weighs 9-3/4 lbs with sling and it would be nice to lighten it up a bit. When I shoot this barrel out I'll be looking at a Carbon Barrel for sure.

I guess these bullet are either one extreme or the other. Tell your son excellent job not getting rattled and making a good follow up shot on a good bull.👍

My son took this bull last Friday (9/27) w .50 cal TC Omega 130 grn pyrodex and 250 grn TC shockwave. First shot was at 18 yards. Hit shoulder bone which exploded bullet and bone with no penetration into chest. All he could see was brown fur at 18 yards so I don’t blame him for placement. Bull walked then ran out to 100 yards. He placed a shot mid body directly behind front leg. Perfect double lung, 20 yard death sprint, dead elk down. We found bullet w tip pressed in but otherwise whole in the hide on the opposite side. We may have lost the bull if second shot not taken. Amazed that at 18 yards he could still walk/run although shoulder was gone there was no damage to vital organs. After this hunt, I decided to check out the Barnes to see if I can replicate good shot group.

To quote David E. Petzal "The 6.5 Creedmoor was as shrewdly thought out and designed as any cartridge I can remember". The cartridge got off to a slow steady start as a target round and grew in popularity over time. It was designed and SAAMI spec'd with a faster twist and longer throat to handle heavier bullets than the 260 REM (sounds like failings that doomed the 244 REM). I like the 6.5C for competition shooting but will stick with my 270 WIN for hunting. Oh and by the way Hornady has been brilliant with 140 SST Superformance and 145 ELD-X Precision Hunter ammo for the 270 WIN. I find the two loads to be accurate in my rifles and deadly on Coues. Finally Remington is owned by a money group that's looking to milk the company for profits and Hornady is gun guys doing fun gun stuff with other shooters and that appears to be their priority.
