Couldn’t find much in the usual spots so we headed to a cool little canyon we discovered last year, a nice hike out of sight from the road and we got to glassing. At first we glassed up fresh digs a good 500 yards out and kept glassing, we figured the pigs were bedded down for their midday nap. About 2 pm we caught movement of pigs and the stalk was on. We arrived and only one pig was out. We were 112 yards away. My pops is confident at 100 with his TC so he let me shoot first with the new muzzleloader. I hit my pig and she went down screaming, that woke up the whole herd and they came into view. Pops got the pistol settled on a pig at 103 yards and it was over. Usually the HAM hunts kicks our butt with us walking miles and miles for 5 days. It was refreshing to harvest on the first day out!

Hello Everyone Thanks for all the advice and Info. My buddy decided to apply with me but he has less points. We ended up applying for Unit 22 south early Muzzleloader and Unit 1 early archery. Hopefully we will be in AZ this fall. Again thanks to everyone on this post.

Just finished up with the calls I am entering in the national call making contest in Nashville at the NWTF convention and thought I would share a couple pictures. First is a Hawaiian koa pot with a brass calling surface. It has a koa striker to match.

Last day buck after 13 days of looking for the big one. Super happy with the results and support from brother and friends! Saw hundreds of does and 50+ bucks. Early on 5 bucks in the 90-95 range, passed on them cuz we're lookinfor110. Been several years since I had a December hunt, forgot how great it can be.

My son was at chucky cheese and fell out of the monster truck ride and broke his femur. I learned real quick that he is one tuff little four year old. I wasn’t there for when it happened but man has he been tuff for the aftermath. Can’t believe he broke the biggest bone in body for his first injury. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. Getting a wheelchair delivered today so we can at lest get out and do some trout fishing at the community lakes around me that they are stocking with trout. Any prayers will help! Thanks guys

The guys at the dealer ruined the clear on my wifes new challenger. We had to get dodge corporate involved and they made them re clear the car. Finding someone to do things right is getting harder to find these days. That's the problem with a good economy I guess.

With 19pts or 17pts the same units were available (per Toprut & Gohunt). Only exception was Unit 3 early archery which dropped to less than 30% chance. Allows me to hunt with my buddy (hopefully). There were some other hunts but they conflict with scheduled huntin or fishin trips in other states. Wishing everyone a great season filled with limited entry tags!

A 9MM can shoot over 20K rounds before showing any accuracy issues. Just saying

I've already got an Xds. Wanna ask me about how many rounds are down the barrel on mine?

I would rather have a unit 1 late archery tag than a 3a3c late rifle tag any day.

Bojangles my wife was diagnosed with cancer right after posting this so reloading was put on the back burner. Hopefully next year i'll get a chance to work something up. Good luck on your hunt, I've killed one with a muzzle loader and it was fun.

The second call is a carob pot with a glass calling surface. It has a carob striker to match the call.

I had a really really primo NV muzzy tag this year and used a LR muzzy with iron sights. It still helped having a suped up gun for a couple reasons. 1: the drop out to 250 is about the same as a30-06 so I can put it right on that far out and level with their back at 300. 2: the energy is the same as a 300 win mag so if you do take a 300 yard open sight shot and you hit an elk in the shoulder blade, you’re gonna pile him up. 3. My gun shoots sub moa and it does make a big difference, even with iron sights to put the error all on your shoulders and remove as much as you can from the gun. I was able to keep softball groups out to 250 with a rear peep and front globe. Paper plate to 350. The site picture was the most critical thing, having the light right to see what you’re aiming at. My max range for the hunt was 350 if it was a buck on an open hillside with good backlight and contrast. 150 yards if light was bad. It really was fun getting ready for that hunt, more like practicing for a bowhunt for muscle memory then a rifle hunt where I site in and verify dope and then go hunting. Ended up shooting my buck at 120 yards but he was chest on and light was low so I feel the practice made it happen.

Mega is gone. Zev bought them out. Warranty is pretty much in question.AR industry is upside down. Sorry, may not be the best time to try to recover your expenses. Mega made good guns and purportedly Zev can as well. Best wishes. May be more of a a GunBroker item.

Whatever you do, do NOT spend 19 points on a late archery tag. Don't get me wrong, some of the late archery hunts can be good, but overall they suck for any type of good bull. Yes, some great bulls are taken each year on these hunts, but as I said overall they don't produce good bulls. I HIGHLY recommend a later rifle bull hunt in 27, 1, 23, 3A/3c. Especially if you are hiring a guide.

Goldtoybox, In my opinion I would put in for 22 north early rifle first choice and 22 south muzzleloader 2nd choice. If you draw I will help you kill the caliber of bull you are looking for. I know both units extremely well and had 22 south muzzleloader last year. I am not a guide just love hunting and helping people out as I find it always is reciprocated in some way. I live less than 2 hours away and am glad to help you from running cameras, scouting, to hunting with you and helping pack your elk out. PM me if you want more info, Mark

Went out with some friends to help hunt javalinas and this guy shows himself at 2 hours before sundown. Put on the decoy and made a stalk around a mountain. Came around a corner and was face to face with the buck at 50 yards. I believe he never ran because I had the decoy on. Perfect hit on a beautiful 4x3 and he didn't go more than 80 yards. Another awesome hunt with my friends. #nobusiness

I’m a resident, have 21 points. I always said I would be happy if I drew an early rifle tag before 40, well that’s come and gone. If someone had told me I would have to wait this long to hunt elk, I would have never started putting in for the damned early rifle hunts! When I draw, it’s a once in a lifetime hunt for me, I will hire a guide. If I were in your shoes, it would all come down to my health. I know 70 year olds who can hike all day, and 70 year olds who can barely check the mail. If you feel good, and doc says you’re good, keep trying for early rifle, hire a guide or bring some boys along and make the best of it!

3rd pic down looks like a much slimmer cat to me, maybe a female or youngster. I think you have a couple different cats there.
