6 pointsWent out with some friends to help hunt javalinas and this guy shows himself at 2 hours before sundown. Put on the decoy and made a stalk around a mountain. Came around a corner and was face to face with the buck at 50 yards. I believe he never ran because I had the decoy on. Perfect hit on a beautiful 4x3 and he didn't go more than 80 yards. Another awesome hunt with my friends. #nobusiness

3 pointsStory of my first deer. (Shortened) After glassing, and stalking other bucks I eventually found myself at the top of a ridge overlooking a wash filled with cattle. As soon as my eyes focused on a calf I saw the white bottom of a 2 point buck jump behind a bush. I briskly started walking to get even with the buck as I was on top of the ridge and he was in the bottom of a wash. I was using an ultimate predator decoy, a silhouette of a doe that I Velcro on my bow, to hopefully lure in the rutting buck. I chased him from ridge to ridge til eventually I cut him off and waited for him to walk right in to me where the wash ended. Seconds after stopping my movement he emerged from behind a bush at about 65 yards. His eyes immediately locked on me, the doe decoy, and began walking right towards me. I ranged the cactus 17 yards in front of me that he would have to go around. I drew my bow without him noticing because of the decoy. When he approached the cactus he turned broadside to go around it and that’s when I let the arrow fly. The Rage broad head penetrated deeply into his vitals from what I could tell at the moment. Instantly blood spurted out of him and he took off down the wash he came from. After waiting an hour I started tracking. After finding little to no blood I eventually made my way back up the wash where I thought he was. I found a large puddle of blood and 10 feet farther there he was; crashed in the wash. I had finally killed my first buck and it was an archery otc hunt. It took a lot of hard days, sleepless nights, and practice to get it done but I did it. Super happy for my first buck. He’s not a monster but for my first deer I can’t complain. Thanks everyone for all the tips and advice. I couldn’t have done it without y’all. 9F8FCEC8-3952-4732-83AF-844D2E2DF364.MOV

2 pointsCole started off with some rough patches knee injury included but has bounced back.........went to Gunnison last weekend where he went 3-1 then last night he brought the house down!!!! Javelina hunting next weekend with my grandson and my phone connected to the Kearny Midwest Duals!!! https://gomountaineers.com/news/2020/1/16/WRST16Jan2020.aspx ALAMOSA, Colo. --- Last season, the rivalry wrestling dual of Western Colorado and Adams State came down to the final match of the night with the Mountaineers picking up the win via a pin in Gunnison. This season, not so much. The No. 23 Mountaineers won six of 10 matches – including three pins and two tech falls – as they made it seven wins in a row over No. 11 Adams State with a 31-12 victory Thursday night at Plachy Hall. WCU (7-4 overall, 2-0 RMAC), the defending RMAC champs, picked up pins from Cole Mortensen at 157 pounds (1:40), No. 12 Ruger Wyneken at 184 pounds (2:34) and Sammy deSeriere (1:47) while getting tech falls from No. 3 Patrick Allis (16-1) at 125 pounds and Hunter Mullin (21-5) at 174 pounds to get big points for the Mountaineers. Michael Thelen just missed getting a major decision win for WCU at 165, beating ASU's Gavin Davy 7-1. Maybe even more key was the WCU wrestlers keeping it close against Adams State's (2-2, 1-1) three high-ranked wrestlers as Cody Fatzinger fell to No. 3 Jonathan Andretta 8-2 at 133 pounds, Jason Hanenberg lost a 3-2 decision to No. 3 Noah Hermosillo and Giovanni Cassioppi fell to No. 6 Josiah Rider 6-0 – totaling just nine team points for the Grizzlies. The match of the night was at 157 pounds as the freshman Mortensen appeared he was going to be pinned within the first minute against ASU's Ryan Rochford before fighting it off, picking up a reversal and pinning Rochford at the 1:40 mark in the first period. The Mountaineers are now 48-35-1 all-time against the Grizzlies. Up next for WCU is the Midwest Duals in Kearney, Nebraska, on Jan. 25. #23 Western Colorado 31, #11 Adams State 12 125: Patrick Allis (WCU) over Isaiah DeLaCerda (ASC) (TF 16-1 5:00) 133: Jonathan Andreatta (ASC) over Cody Fatzinger (WCU) (Dec 8-2) 141: Noah Hermosillo (ASC) over Jason Hanenberg (WCU) (Dec 3-2) 149: Josiah Rider (ASC) over Giovanni Cassioppi (WCU) (Dec 6-0) 157: Cole Mortensen (WCU) over Ryan Rochford (ASC) (Fall 1:40) 165: Michael Thelen (WCU) over Gavin Davy (ASC) (Dec 7-1) 174: Hunter Mullin (WCU) over Natrelle Demison (ASC) (TF 21-5 5:59) 184: Ruger Wyneken (WCU) over William Tyler (ASC) (Fall 2:34) 197: Cole Gustavson (ASC) over Espen Weber (WCU) (Dec 12-6) 285: Sammy deSeriere (WCU) over Sylvester Montgomery (ASC) (Fall 1:47)

2 pointsI received the following today via email as a reply to the one I had sent him (in red below) and posted here earlier. Rep. Bob Thorpe Will Not Run HB2130 and HB2131 STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Representative Bob Thorpe (R-6) today announced that he will not be running HB 2130 (G&F; trail cameras; use; limits) and HB 2131(G&F; unlawful activities; penalty). According to Representative Thorpe, after conferring with the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, he determined it would be much better for the Commission to address these issues through their rule-making and public engagement process, then for the Legislature to enact in state law. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr. Thorpe, As written, it appears HB2031 would eliminate all hunting, including waterfowl, within 100 yds. of nearly every lake in the state since they are all "man-made." And if someone owns a house or cabin within a 100 yds. of a lake or other man-made watering "facility," they won't be able to field dress doves, quail, etc. at home. Although HB2030 isn't near as bad, it contains ambiguous and vague language such as "...or alters the manner in which wildlife accesses a water source." What is the normal "manner" in the way wildlife accesses a water source? Tony Mandile Glendale, AZ

1 pointHad a good coyote hunt this morning in southern Arizona with my son. We made 8-stands, took 4-coyotes and I had one miss. Longest shot was 35-yards. Closest shot was 18-yards. 3 of the coyotes were taken with the. AR-15s in the picture. Shooting hand loaded 55-grain VMax bullets with Varget powder. One was shot with the Benelli Super Vinci shooting 3.5 inch #4 buckshot (54 pellets). All-in-all a great day.

1 pointHow would anyone drive anywhere there’s water holes all over heck and nobody knows where every single one is. The restriction I would like to see is no more worthless unenforceable laws.
-
1 pointMy experience is that cattle not only come to the water hole but don't leave the water hole when I'm at a water hole even after one gets pelted in the head with a rock. I didn't throw the rock though in case you were wondering.

1 pointMy Girlfriend Ashley got it done in a big way this past Friday and knocked down a monster first Coues Deer! It was our only full day to get out and hunt together so we decided to roll the dice on a special buck that i've had 3 years of history with. It all happened so fast and was/is surreal because everyone knows that 99.9% of the time the stars just don't line up for you. I still can't believe that we got him and I am very proud of the effort Ashley put into harvesting this beautiful creature. DAN
