A buddy sent me a pic of this guy.

I drive the Bush Highway often and it’s usually early in the day. I see people parked on the side of the road filming or taking pictures of these Horses. Sometimes they’re only 20’ away. You can tell they’re thrilled to be there. I laugh to myself almost every time because the wild animals I know won’t let you get 20’ away talking and making all kinds of movement and the passing vehicles spook the animals I consider wild. I try to figure out what can make a person so stupid as to consider these wild animals and the only thing I can come up with is that these people are city people and can’t think like we do. To them, they’re called wild horses on the tv, well damit, they’re wild.

Story of my first deer. (Shortened) After glassing, and stalking other bucks I eventually found myself at the top of a ridge overlooking a wash filled with cattle. As soon as my eyes focused on a calf I saw the white bottom of a 2 point buck jump behind a bush. I briskly started walking to get even with the buck as I was on top of the ridge and he was in the bottom of a wash. I was using an ultimate predator decoy, a silhouette of a doe that I Velcro on my bow, to hopefully lure in the rutting buck. I chased him from ridge to ridge til eventually I cut him off and waited for him to walk right in to me where the wash ended. Seconds after stopping my movement he emerged from behind a bush at about 65 yards. His eyes immediately locked on me, the doe decoy, and began walking right towards me. I ranged the cactus 17 yards in front of me that he would have to go around. I drew my bow without him noticing because of the decoy. When he approached the cactus he turned broadside to go around it and that’s when I let the arrow fly. The Rage broad head penetrated deeply into his vitals from what I could tell at the moment. Instantly blood spurted out of him and he took off down the wash he came from. After waiting an hour I started tracking. After finding little to no blood I eventually made my way back up the wash where I thought he was. I found a large puddle of blood and 10 feet farther there he was; crashed in the wash. I had finally killed my first buck and it was an archery otc hunt. It took a lot of hard days, sleepless nights, and practice to get it done but I did it. Super happy for my first buck. I had a similar situation many years ago. In my case I hit the near side shoulder blade. My situation was very similar to this. I hit him at last light. After following a similar blood trail by flashlight I backed off and returned at daylight. Trailed him to a bed, where I jumped him, about 200 yrs from the initial hit. The bed looked identical to yours. What I see here is clotting type blood. Anyhow, spent another 5 hours gridding and searching but did not recover the deer. If you don't find him, take comfort that the hit may not be fatal. The bone ridge at the back of the shoulder blade is virtually impenetrable. For what its worth, my hit was at 20yds using a 125 grain thunderhead out of a 62 lb compound bow. You are doing the right thing. Doing your best to recover him. .

Word on the street is that Thorpe has pulled the Bills from consideration. My real question is who put him up to this. Its good to know your enemy. Something to think about before the election in November, especially if he is your Representative. We don't need this California RINO doing business in the State Capital if you ask me.

His buck was a small 3 point (barely a three point). Truthfully just walked into that buck in unit 22. It was one of two deer we saw that day in 22. We were working some deep cuts (broken terrain) and it just stood up out of its bed at 70ish yards. Bam. Dead deer. Cut it up, and hiked the 1.5 miles out.

My dad, cousin and I wrapped up the late coues hunt. My dad shot his buck with one shot at 500 yards. Mine was one shot at 430. We looked over a lot of bucks and had a blast while doing it. I am grateful to still be able to hunt with my dad. He follows me into some gnarly country. He was able to watch my shot hit home and I was able to do the same for him. Memories that will last a lifetime.

Spend some time around beaverhead in 27. You'll be sure to see some Ron. Unit 1 is starting to get over run with them too near the 27/rez border. Just so happens that bighorn sheep inhabit the exact same place as the FERAL horses in 1 and 27. Would we rather see bighorn sheep or feral horses on the landscape? there are around 70k bighorn sheep in the country vs 9.2 million horses, around 50k of which are FERAL, not wild.

I don’t think anyone is arguing what ranches have done for wildlife as far as water goes. Most water holes in this state were put in for cattle.

This is not about sitting water, game cameras or even ranchers. This is just another step in a well planned anti hunting agenda of divide and conquer. Remember the elimination of bear baiting, leghold traps, hunting over feed? This is just another step, and there are more to come. In addition to these, watch out for bills on: lion hunting, bear hunting, magazine size, distance limitations, electronics, optics and the list goes on. Hunters need to support all legal hunting rather that allowing it to be taken away because it is not “your” type of hunting.

Since I haven’t logged into CWT in forever, here’s last years buck too lol! Spot and stalk, 60yd shot and watched him fall in sight! heck of a pack out in the heat and terrain!
