4 pointsA buddy and I decided to go out last Friday to look for bears. The wind made glassing tough... as I'm sure it was for a lot of deer hunters out this past weekend. As luck would have it, we glassed up a nice looking bear feeding away. We worked our way into position a couple of times in the morning, but couldn't get a clear shot. He would casually feed over a small ridge or into some thick cover and we'd re-position. I also wanted to cut the distance a bit more than usual considering the wind. I worked my way into a better position and found him feeding again right around noon. Worked a little closer and had a great rest at 223 yards. I couldn't be happier with this bear... he has battle scars and a big blocky head with character and a beautiful jet black coat.

3 pointsWell, had a really tough hunt this year. Turns out I wasn't the only one that knew about my target bucks. After dealing with people shelling off artillery rounds at the bucks from over 1000 yards every morning i decided to back out of the area for a couple of days and let the pressure die down. I snuck back into my perch on Tuesday evening and was able to knock this buck down. He was about my "plan D" buck but I'm happy with him. I've always wanted a big two-point and i think this one qualifies. He's a really old troll of a deer and was the dominant buck in the area. A good one to get out of the gene pool. Sorry for the disgusting decapitation photos. He was a long ways from a road and didn't get to him until well after dark. The field photos were terrible.

2 pointsSorry guys, my original intent was not this. Just a simple question because I am not skilled in scoring. Thanks for all the opinions and reasoning behind it! Epstein didn’t kill himself!

2 pointsAlright just getting home. Long Day. Go through the elk stuff pretty quick. I go to Bulltopia and only see one small (300ish) bull. Then a herd of 10 comes out and I think they are making there way to there normal bedding area all of sudden they make a sharp right turn catching me off guard and stuck in no mans land for the better part of an hour. then the skyline turns into stuff Kings Calenders are made. First wave second wave Small bulls make it to the point I am on. At least I thought they were all small until I looked at the pic just now. They catch my movement but that was ok I wanted this bull anyway I go the top of the hill I am on and I notice the main herd is still in the field after 800 and then they redirect. I put a play on the bulls I wanted. I didnt give them enough time to fall asleep and they bolt I notice that they start acting funny and redirect about the same spot the main herd did. I thought well maybe that lion from yesterday is back. It about 1100 now and I decide to walk by that spot and go to the point where the main herd goes and find a hiding spot for the morning. I get to where I saw the lion yesterday and hear snarling and the cat takes a stand at a headless head elk. It growling now and piercing through me with its stare. I'm 25 yards away. Oh Snap (it wasnt snap btw) angry cats kill people in California. It position is facing straight at me very low to the ground. (this is 1120 in the morning). I grab an arrow pull back as quickly as I can and put my first pin directly between his eyes. I was not doing this for hunting purposes I was doing this because I felt eminent danger to my personal well being. I release, expecting a dead cat, it jumps 10 feet in the air runs by at 15 yards up the hill next to me then crosses the field behind me. The voice in my head was yelling take the effin picture say I search for four hours, text a few friends and going through my phone for Houndsman. I text a few of those, no answer till later anyway. Then a friend says he knows a guy. They are there in less than two hours now 510. I had gone back the two miles to my truck (phone was dying) to take the two track in. within a minute of catching the trail (3 bear dogs 1 lion dog) they found the tree he was hiding in only 10' up and a tree I walked past at five times. They jokingly (i Think) said she wanted to take you out. I never thought to look up except for the time when I saw unnatural branch movement. The arrow hits the lungs perfectly and she runs 100 yards trees again. After waiting a few minutes, no very last light, I put a third arrow into her and 30 seconds later she falls. Back to elk tomorrow and a trip to G&F. Pics on the next post they are on my phone.

2 pointsMy Girlfriend Ashley got it done in a big way this past Friday and knocked down a monster first Coues Deer! It was our only full day to get out and hunt together so we decided to roll the dice on a special buck that i've had 3 years of history with. It all happened so fast and was/is surreal because everyone knows that 99.9% of the time the stars just don't line up for you. I still can't believe that we got him and I am very proud of the effort Ashley put into harvesting this beautiful creature. DAN

1 pointYou can't compare me to CNN what I show is true, hahaha. Yesterday I set up on 75 yards on the wrong side of perfect. These guys walked around me and bedded 130 yards southeast of me. When the wind did what its been doing. It became a track meet Had to take care of Kitty midday. I miss when g&f was run by hunters. I've been sic, two meals the last three days so it finally caught up to me and I had to rest. Afternoon nothing. This morning I had everything nearly perfect. One of the bigger of the big bulls is was coming with maybe another dozen friends. Then for the first time for about three minutes the wind was from the southeast to northwest. And they cut across the fields fast. Better pics later Hoping the come back to a point quarter mile north of where I spooked them ready right now. I'll wait a bit and then start glassing other parts

1 pointWas the headless bull shot with an arrow or rifle? Because we know it is waste of game at a minimum, poaching more than likely. Hmmmm didn't see any powerlines on the photo though.....wonder where NoB…….never mind.

1 pointWe use glow sticks. Pop the capsules then cut the top off and dump the liquid out at all the places you need to turn. Doesn't last forever and nothing you have to go clean up later.

1 pointboy i miss that stretch of highway along sycamore. mom or even dad would pull off along the creek to cool out the old yellow ford wagon and we would play in the creek in the 60s/70s. Gib Duthie or the other hiway patrol officers would always stop and stay with us until the ford was ready to head on up to overgaard. lee

1 pointWe had such a great time on my son's first big game hunt. The youth camp was AMAZING. Everyone was so nice. They were so willing to donate their time to help all the youth have a successful hunt and the food was delicious. My dad was able to go with us on this hunt but he is used to hunting near Flagstaff in the pines so this was very different for him. Opening day we went out by ourselves just to see what we could do. We got a few pointers from the people at camp on where to start. My dad was not used to glassing he is used to hiking with little glassing. In 22 it was all about glassing and little hiking. We saw a couple white tail doe but nothing else. Day 2 we decided to have a mentor go with us. (He was amazing!) We were able to get on a couple bucks in the morning but they were already being stocked by two other hunters but we waited to see if they would come our way. The two othere hunters missed 6-7 times before the deer even ran the opposite way. Others are missing left and right. My son was getting discouraged because he couldn't even get a shot. I gave him a pep talk and he was ready again. Sunday was the last day we had our mentor. Same thing happened we glasses a buck and by the time we were ready to stock someone was already shooting at him and missed. We went back to camp dropped our mentor off ( he had to get back home) and grabbed a quick bite. We went back out by this time it was HOT we knew they would not be moving around so our best bet was to hike and jump one. We walked a couple miles up and down ridges and were heading back to the truck when a velvet spike jumped out of nowhere. We got my son set up on his shooting sticks by this time the buck was on the other side a ridge and moving fast my dad whistled and it stopped and looked. My son said "I have a shot" we told him to take it. 300 yards away, 1 shot dropped him where he stood. I was so proud of him. I am grateful my dad was able to be there and to pack that deer out a mile back to the truck 😜. I am grateful to our mentor and wish he could have been there to see it and i thankful for everone at camp that helped with whatever they needed. Now we are in Flagstaff helping my other son fill his cow tag.
