My wife has tagged out on 3 nice bucks on opening day the last 3 years since she decided to start hunting. The deer were holding tight at first light due to the wind. When I changed glassing seats I used the chest binos to scan closeby hills and found this fella and another buck at 700 yards. We boogied over there and got nice and close when he was bedded down. The shot was 140 yards.

BUMP I was lucky to get to use this Polaris for my son’s youth elk hunt this year. Absolutely could not have done it without this Ranger. It started right up each morning and ran great for the 4 days we used it. Held all of our gear and got us all over 6a without a hiccup. Used it to make wood cutting runs for camp and hauled all the cut wood as well. With zero issues, it handled the worst “road” conditions I’ve ever been on in my 30 plus years of driving. If anyone’s on the fence and thinking about pulling the trigger, go for it. This is one great set up. Wish I had the funds or I’d buy it myself.

This deer is not a monster but I just got him back and he is my first whitetail. The main reason for this post is to publicly thank Morgan Zimmerman of Patriot Precision for building me a rifle I could rely on. I hunted for about ten years with various rifles and was unsuccessful. Morgan built me a 6.5 x 55 AI that shoots “lights out”. I highly recommend him if you are looking to build a custom rifle. JT

2013 Polaris Ranger Crew 800cc, EPS, full roof, new front tires, full skid plates underneath, sound system, dump bed, runs great! I have a few different windshields that go with it as well. Well maintained buggy. 3675 miles and 392 hours... $10,500, no trades!

I hunted it 22/23 years ago and it was bitter cold sleeping in my camper shell.

Looks like Tuesday night the low will be 5 and Wednesday the high 32 for Jacob's Lake. They should be out and may start moving down.

All the does you saw are where the water is or they would be gone. Keep checking on them and the bucks will be coming along looking for a girl friend.

Better eyes than my girlfriend, cheaper to by the dog, and the dog will want to go hunting

That's a nice deer, congratulations! 2x4 is pretty unique I would say! He has the face of a handsome, mature buck.

I thought I could replace the triclawps with just cradling the fore end on my tripod head. I was wrong and regret selling it. Triclawps in front and then stuff a beanie inside a beanie and attach it to the rest part of the trigger stick. It allows you to slide it up and down the stock and allows you to rest your cheek on it with pressure. I'm telling you its rock solid. Good luck.

And just think there are another 700+ tags in the first week of December. They are not doing the elk population many favors in that unit. There are still alot of elk but not even close to what could be there.

My son took this bull last Friday (9/27) w .50 cal TC Omega 130 grn pyrodex and 250 grn TC shockwave. First shot was at 18 yards. Hit shoulder bone which exploded bullet and bone with no penetration into chest. All he could see was brown fur at 18 yards so I don’t blame him for placement. Bull walked then ran out to 100 yards. He placed a shot mid body directly behind front leg. Perfect double lung, 20 yard death sprint, dead elk down. We found bullet w tip pressed in but otherwise whole in the hide on the opposite side. We may have lost the bull if second shot not taken. Amazed that at 18 yards he could still walk/run although shoulder was gone there was no damage to vital organs. After this hunt, I decided to check out the Barnes to see if I can replicate good shot group.

How about an earlier Christmas get together at my place on Saturday, December 16th? I will video project Polar Express on my garage for the kids and adults can tell hunting stories. I will have hotdogs and marshmallows for cooking in the fire and a vat or two of hot cocoa.
