Was easier to type one word rather than the definition. I believe it goes back to biblical times. Just goes to show how old I am. 🤣

Cute little critters. Wife went to the maze and wine tasting last night in wilcox and decided to take a few city slickers to go see the Chiricauas. They just saw a whole pack of coatis on the way in that put on a pretty good show for them

Hey folks. Saw this video on an Arizona hunting Facebook page. Thought you all in the trail cam forum might enjoy it. Cheers!

T minus 6 days... There is a stack of coolers in the man cave. Rifle has good feed and is confirmed out to 500 yds. Have 6 arrows with sharp FIXED blad wac’em broadheads. I have made a personal rule to keep things within 50 yds, especially on big bulls, be it moose or elk. I have arrangements with a taxidermist to clean my skull should I manage to run into one. Have a beef scapula boiling in the stock pot right now. Got a new spare for the trailer. Things are starting to come together. As tends to happen, some folks who were hoping to come have had to change plans so it’s looking to be a mostly solo adventure. I have been in touch with some locals who have kept their eyes open and can probably help at different times. Word is that the rut is hitting pretty hard right now. Hopefully it lasts a couple more weeks.

Tell him to send me gps coords to the tank, so I can go find the bulls laying around there.

He is talking about Lance's personal scopes. They are all crazy high end super clear scopes and will make you feel bad about your own scope. Lance mounted a scope for me awhile back and I learned a few things. I have since bought my own wheeler mounting tools. You can use them if you need them. I am near arrowhead.

How do you shoot a "broken" rifle? Or do you mean "braked"? 😉

Diesel fouling tanks, 5 hits no recovery, shots fired...what the heck is wrong with people? All this over elk? I love the dang things as much or more than most guys but I will give it all up before I stoop low enough to pull any of that nonsense! People have no respect for anything anymore. All they care about is that dang Instagram pic it seems. I don't know if its social media and instant access to info so we just know more about these incidents now or if there are really that many bungholes out there. Its despicable none the less!

A Chevy diesel with a burnt out front light and a light bar. Looks like 30 trucks I see everyday. Shoulda described what logo was on the drivers flat brim.

You, as a fellow hunter, should have told him to STOP after #3 at the latest. This is just asinine.

You wont need ozone for the bison. They are basically cattle. My buddy's son shot his cow near the salt lick with a rifle and she lay dead for 30 minutes before the others took off. What you will need is patience of steel, tons of games, magazines, crossword puzzles, bags of rice anything that will keep you busy... bags of rice are fun to guess the amount in a bag and then count and see how close you were.

Oh he has got the ethics talk...like 3 years ago when he did same thing in 3A/C... that's why I dont hunt with him! But this is not just this guy, but hundreds of others doing the same thing in other units. Talked to a guy in the archery shop before the hunts who was bragging about shooting 6 bulls on his last hunt in 5A... wonder how many he has shot this hunt? The reason I bring these up, is because G&F needs to hopefully calculate this into their numbers and this might explain some of the declining elk numbers...

When I first got this buck on camera early in July I knew he had a messed up right side. I really didn’t think he would be much of a buck. Didn’t really give him much thought. Beginning of August he was starting to look better but still not interested in hunting him. By the end of August I decided he was the buck I wanted. Problem was he was in low mesquite county and no real place to glass him up. I knew I would have to sit a blind on water. Opening morning I went to my blind at daylight at 10:15 I was standing up stretching and he walked in 20 yards away. As I sat down and grabbed my bow he winded me and left. 2nd and 3rd day sat all day he never came in . I was burned out sitting in that heat in a blind. I decided to let him sit and check my camera in a few days to see if he returned. He finally returned 7 days after he winded me. I sat day 8-9 with no luck. On Labor Day I decided to hang out with the family and sit the blind the next 2 days. That evening on Labor Day I went in to adjust my seat in my blind. That way everything would be ready for the next 2 days. As I was walking into the blind as soon as I saw the water tank I was shocked he was getting water. A small buck with him heard me and ran a few yards then stopped. I ranged the big buck he was 62 yards. I sat down in the grass and he went back to drinking. I drew back stood up I knew this would probably be my last chance since last time I spooked him he disappeared 7 days. I put my 60 high and let it go. Arrow hit a little high but hit the spine and he dropped. I guessed him to be 115-118 but was very happy once I walked up on him he was bigger than I thought. Hardest part was sitting in a blind daylight tell dark in 105 temperatures.

If someone has an inkling to expand their skills here are a few things to try. 1. Shoot small bore silhouette. It's offhand and .22 out to 100 meters. 2. Shoot high power silhouette. Centerfire rifle calibers (no magnums) out to 500 meters. 3. Take your deer rifle and jump shoot jackrabbits. 4. Learn how to predator call for coyotes. Don't use a bipod to shoot from. Nothing like shooting a moving target offhand. Learn the habits and reactions of coyotes when they are coming into a call and what they do when they bust you. No reason to limit yourselves to what makes you comfortable with a rifle.

I practice shooting between 545 and 1221 in sitting, kneeling positions. Off packs, bipods, tripods, bipod/bipod combos, etc. I don't really practice standing/offhand too much, because if I shoot offhand, it is usually going to be 200 or less. Although, I used to practice standing with a hand on a branch or side of a tree quite a bit. But offhand to me is only an option if sitting with front bipod won't work. I have let a lot of game walk past 200 if I am not able to get sitting/kneeling. Just my personal call. I feel confident in sitting/kneeling positions with a good front rest out to 600 or so. If I add a rear bipod/tripod, I am good to 900 on 8" targets. If I get prone....look out suckers. I practice a lot out to 1700+, and a few rifles even to 2000+. That is not a high percentage shot though. But great wind reading practice. If the bullet has 1800fps and 1000ft/lbs (1500ft/lbs for elk) you are in the danger zone on a calm day. But, I don't think I would shoot at big game, even under perfect conditions, past 1000-1200 depending on what rifle I had. That being said, my longest personal big game shot is "only" 662 yards. 488 is my second longest big game shot. 445 third. Everything else that I can remember has been sub-200 yards. My three longest big game shots have all been sitting/kneeling w. front bipod and some natural or other rear aid. Draped over a downed log (488)/root ball of downed tree (662), or front/rear bipods (445). Wind is a whole different ballgame. Even with my wind meter, I won't take shots much over 500 if it is blowing over 10mph. 10mph+, and I have passed on a LOT of probably make able shots. I just feel like I personally need a 100% shot probability on big game. Now coyotes?? I fling lead at them as far as I think the bullet will drop on them and ruin their day. 1 @ 1327 & 2 @ 1365, still looking for that 1 mile shot. All 3 were prone shots. Tons of other prone, sitting w. Front bipod, or offhand.

Not close to the rut and no they don't migrate lower in most circumstances.
