9 pointsA little harsh? No disrespect, but the guy was just posting relevant news. I see no harm.

5 pointsThat’s PRDATR for ya. Spewing negativity. Haven’t seen him show his face since he said we deserved the 9/11 attacks. Go back to your cave now

4 pointsDiesel fouling tanks, 5 hits no recovery, shots fired...what the heck is wrong with people? All this over elk? I love the dang things as much or more than most guys but I will give it all up before I stoop low enough to pull any of that nonsense! People have no respect for anything anymore. All they care about is that dang Instagram pic it seems. I don't know if its social media and instant access to info so we just know more about these incidents now or if there are really that many bungholes out there. Its despicable none the less!

3 pointsIt's been a lot of years trying in NM and a couple in AZ and I finally managed an archery coues. my first velvet buck as well. I went In for a few days opening weekend and saw a lot of bucks, even had a few spikes and does in range but nothing I could justify shooting. When I got a few days off my girlfriend encouraged me to go back in. I saw a lot of deer but still got my but kicked for about 3 days in the back country. The last day I decided to take it easy, slept in, dried my gear out by the fire for a few hours, struck camp and started hiking out around 9 or 10. I wanted to stop and do a little glassing on the way out but before I could even get to my ridge I spotted a nice buck across the canyon from me. I tried to slide off of a steep hill to cut him off in the bottom but before I made it far a train of about 8 horse riders came down the trail between him and I. Naturally he ghosted, a few does ran out the far side and I gave up. I decided to drop down under cover of their commotion, hit the bottom and slowly worked my way up canyon expecting nothing but still moving slow and quiet just in case. Sure enough despite the riders he had kept right along his line and I spotted him in the bottom. I was able to connect a shot at 33 and had him out in a few hours. beat the heck out of packing an elk out! looks like it wont let me upload a file. I'll try to get a pic in a follow up

2 pointsMy hunt started around 6 weeks ago when my son and I decided to hike some cameras and treestand into some remote country. A couple weeks after that him and a friend dove in and checked pictures and hung another treestand for me. We had several really nice bucks hitting his stand area and a couple good ones at mine. We could not head in until opening morning so we spent the first 3.5 hours of friday hiking into camp. My son passed up a decent buck that first evening as I sat around camp recuperating from the hike in. Day 2 my son missed what he called a giant and from the scouting pictures if it was the buck he thinks it was he is right. On Sunday morning I shot my best archery Coues buck as it is my only archery Coues buck. After a few more chances we packed out after 7 days spent in the Az back country. The trail cam pic is one of the bucks he missed (we think).

1 pointThis deer is not a monster but I just got him back and he is my first whitetail. The main reason for this post is to publicly thank Morgan Zimmerman of Patriot Precision for building me a rifle I could rely on. I hunted for about ten years with various rifles and was unsuccessful. Morgan built me a 6.5 x 55 AI that shoots “lights out”. I highly recommend him if you are looking to build a custom rifle. JT

1 pointIt happens more archery just because archery is more primitive and arrows don’t kill as well as high speed bullets when shots are bad. I hate people saying unethical, everyone has slightly different ethics who’s to say which is right or wrong. Unpracticed hunters are in all types of hunting the equipment has nothing to do with ones hunting/ shooting capabilities. If a guy practices 80 yards with his bow and can hit a pie plate every time or shoots at 800 and can hit a 10 in gong ever-time how are those bad shots! Not to mention chit happens in hunting and we all make a bad shot once in awhile. The real issue is tracking and putting forth the effort to recover game, that is what has been lost in all types of hunting. Hunt responsibly.

1 point0 for 8 is a very bad statistic for sure. I don't think an individual wounded animal means anything necessarily unethical happened. I consider myself a very accomplished bow hunter. When I shoot, I shoot ethical shots, but buck fever and life happens. Quick, clean kills are always the goal and design, but I don't know anyone personally that has killed over 10 animals with ALL perfect shots. Its not possible to control ALL factors in hunting situations, rifle or bow. Hunting is not a simulation and humans and the animals are not robots. If you hunt long enough, you will eventually have some "moment of truth" experiences that will show you the truth too. We try to mitigate all factors possible, but even "good shots" can lead to a lost animal unfortunately.

1 pointOn my last archery bull hunt I got buck fever so bad that I clean missed a bull at 17 yards. (Yup, I'm actually admitting to that!! 🙄) Wasn't for lack of experience or practice. Simply is my nature to get EXTREME buck fever in most shooting situations, rifle or bow. I haven't put in for an archery tag since. Recently I've found that I get much more enjoyment hunting with my children or friends, gladly playing the glasser/Sherpa role. Would rather sit back and spectate as one of them kills something (or not), as opposed to me being on the trigger. Animals are better off that way. They're better shots than I am anyway. S.

1 pointIt's sad that we are lumped together as hunters when there are so many douchebags giving us bad names.

1 pointWanna know how I know not to shoot game at 80+ yards with a bow?!?! 50 YEARS OF BOWHUNTING!!!!
-
1 pointI’d say if the anti hunters were reading this thread, which I’m sure they will, it adds more fuel to their plan of banishing hunting. Not saying it’s ethical to leave wounded animals but as the other thread asks, how long do we wait and search for the wounded animal? I’ve killed animals with bullets and a broad head in them and they didn’t look hurt at all.

1 pointWhen I first got this buck on camera early in July I knew he had a messed up right side. I really didn’t think he would be much of a buck. Didn’t really give him much thought. Beginning of August he was starting to look better but still not interested in hunting him. By the end of August I decided he was the buck I wanted. Problem was he was in low mesquite county and no real place to glass him up. I knew I would have to sit a blind on water. Opening morning I went to my blind at daylight at 10:15 I was standing up stretching and he walked in 20 yards away. As I sat down and grabbed my bow he winded me and left. 2nd and 3rd day sat all day he never came in . I was burned out sitting in that heat in a blind. I decided to let him sit and check my camera in a few days to see if he returned. He finally returned 7 days after he winded me. I sat day 8-9 with no luck. On Labor Day I decided to hang out with the family and sit the blind the next 2 days. That evening on Labor Day I went in to adjust my seat in my blind. That way everything would be ready for the next 2 days. As I was walking into the blind as soon as I saw the water tank I was shocked he was getting water. A small buck with him heard me and ran a few yards then stopped. I ranged the big buck he was 62 yards. I sat down in the grass and he went back to drinking. I drew back stood up I knew this would probably be my last chance since last time I spooked him he disappeared 7 days. I put my 60 high and let it go. Arrow hit a little high but hit the spine and he dropped. I guessed him to be 115-118 but was very happy once I walked up on him he was bigger than I thought. Hardest part was sitting in a blind daylight tell dark in 105 temperatures.
