5 pointsMy season lasted a little over a half day. I got into my blind at about 7 am. Didn’t have any action until about 10 am, when a doe came in. After she left, nothing went on till just about noon when a two point came in. After that it was a steady stream of deer, couple spikes and does, till 1:30. I had about as much of the heat as I could take. I never had been so hot in a blind. I was wringing wet with sweat. At 1:45 I had enough. I got all my gear ready to go and took one last scan out of the blind to make sure I didn’t miss something. I looked up the hill and here came a big buck down the trail a long with a 1x2. I scrambled to get ready. The buck came right in front of my blind at 15 yards and was quartering away. Drew, settled my pin on the last rib, and released. The arrow it exactly were I aimed. The buck ran up the hill and stopped then walked off. I didn’t like the reaction of the deer so I gathered my stuff and went back to camp. Decided to give the buck two hours. At 4:00 I started on the blood trail. Not much blood. A few drops here and there. When I got to where I last seen him, the blood quit. Slowly I followed a few tracks and a couple broke limbs. 40 yards later there he was piled up. The arrow hit the last rib and came out on the back edge of the opposite shoulder. What an amazing day for a great buck! Brian

3 pointsAll day in a treestand is tough.. thankfully this guy and a buddy showed up around 3 on Saturday. Came into water at 32 yards, 100 grain montec to the heart and he was dead 50 yards later. He needed about two weeks to finish off and he might’ve broke the 100” mark but I’m happy nonetheless.

2 pointsJust a quick post to thank board member Stomp442, Clint Neff, for donating several trigger guards to AZGFD's Hunter Education program. I volunteer with them and we needed a few trigger guards to drill into some dummy rifles we use for TAB+1 training, the +1 was tough without trigger guards so the donation really helped. Thanks Clint!

2 pointsMoisture doesn’t always equal big antelope. If that were the case ND would have giants. Our bucks wade around in chest deep alfalfa and soybeans all summer and rarely break 78”. I think in the really dry parts of NM a wet year will throw out some big ones but I honestly think for a majority of AZ, particularly the higher country units, an average or even drier then average year is best for antelope growth. The feed gets watered down and doesn’t have the protein it needs to grow big horns.

1 pointAfter waiting 26 years to draw this tag, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would turn it back in. After two scouting trips to unit 10, I can honestly say this is a terrible year for antelope in that unit! At least for me, I couldn’t find anything over 80”, maybe not even over 78” in five days of Scouting. That’s on the Boquillas ranch and on public land. Super disappointed! I hope whoever gets the tag makes the most of it!

1 pointDang dude. You need to take me up on my offer. I mean no disrespect but obviously what you have been doing has not worked. Come down my way for a weekend or somebody please help this guy out.

1 pointI have run cams on the same water sources for years. Proof is in the pudding. I'll sit a water hole all day long in December and January. If a person wants to be sitting on a water hole during August in 90 degree plus heat for the off chance that a Muley might come in, more power to'em. My fat butt will take air conditioning, a cold beer and a siesta.

1 pointMuleys will water all day long if there not bothered or alot of people running around. Muleys also have a huge range and so while you might not see them at this or that tank, they have a water source somewhere. at a seminair a ton of years ago the guy was saying that north rim and desert mulies can go 7-10 days with out water. He also said that they have a huge range and when they get bothered you may never see them at the water hole your sitting at. buddy and I have sat at water tanks for 24 hours straight before and this one particular buck never came in to the two water tanks we were sitting at during hunting season. before the season that f'r was there every morning and evening and sometimes middle of day. That was in the Flats in on the north side of 13a just south of cane beds.

1 pointCool dead head, I got the same card reader and I hate it. Just ordered a card reader that hooks up to a phone or computer. I've been enjoying your posts and pics, looks pretty dang fun! Thanks for all the info you shot my way. Big spring definately looked promising and I heard a couple guys just killed off of it. We also had a 5 hour detour to Kanab for truck problems, had to change out my alternater in the napa parking lot. But i got my cams set and i have all the confidence i need for my hunt even without the cams. Between old posts, emails from members here and boots on the ground I'm sittin pretty! Good luck dude! Ps, if you go into Kanab I hear Wild Thyme has great food!

1 pointI don't know 5bs but I know different areas of 6a are glassable. Do you know how to glass with a tripod and 15s, because that's very important? Typical deer hunting is all about glassing, but in flat units where you can't get up high to glass I'm not sure how most guys do it. I do know starting a mineral lick a good mile or so off the road is a good start in those flat units. But that is a long term investment and it's too late for you to do that now. Also sitting water holes right now is useful, be sure to check tank perimeter for buck tracks and not just does. Other than that the guys that hunt flat units can be more useful. Asking where deer are on your first post is not good on forums, people are more willing to share and help after youve been here for awhile. You would probably be better served offereing to help on someone else's hunt that has experience. Sometimes putting your hunt on the back burner and helping someone else is worth it's weight in gold for the knowledge that you gain. There are lots of great people that will help you learn but there are no freebies here. I joined here like 3ish years ago and I now have lots of numbers in my phone, plenty that helped me and plenty I've helped. Case in point, i scored a bison tag this year and because of the kind folks here i have absolute confidence im gonna fill my tag this year. Invest some time here and you will never need a guide on a hunt and you will learn a lot. If your up to the drive you can come down my way and I will take you out to show you some stuff, but I primarily hunt Coues not Muley.

1 pointDay 2, Hectic day, my brother picked the spot Saturday we went down to deffinbaugh. I was cursing him most of the way because we didnt get there until after 800. But the action made up for it. around 930 we see bunch of bucks that I take a look at. there is a giant typical bigger (deeper forks anyway) than the one in the pic I posted. I get to 78 yards and wait, wait, and wait some more. Something has the other 8 bucks skittish and blowing. I try to force the issue but get busted and they take off like a cheetah chasing them. Twenty minutes later we meet up with GF officer. Really nice guy, I showed him some pictures and he said "you are passing up that". Litterally just after that we run into a group of three bucks that I make a play on. I get to 67 yards and feel very comfortable with the shot and miss. This buck was younger but had mass and points for days. we park there and do some searching hoping to get caught up. around 100 we sitting in a pine draw having lunch and throwing pine cones at each when I spot antlers. 219 yards away. I have my shows off to take out the stickers from socks. My brother says SHOOT IT. and I say we will let fate decide if I can within range I will take the shot. I get to 67 yards again (I just practiced at a waterhole after my earlier miss. He stands, I release, and he Matrix's my arrow. The stalk You can see his horns ffour trees from me The witching hour It starts with me seeing the biggest bodied deer I have ever seen with kicker on each side making him have 40 inch outside spread or very close to it. (I drop my bow arm and wiff it) Next we see this little guy and few of his friends. than a big group of 10 with a typical with double eyeguards.

1 pointbad signal. Day 1 @ very first light we got into these guys. 45 yards The rest of the morning was spent exploring the mountain to the east of mesquite and west of black rock mid day was a four mile (round trip trek) to check the one and only trail camera I left out here. A baby double drop buck and a lion on it I go to check to see if I can see the buck I posted earlier (blurry) then the witching hour hits and I have this guy at 25 yards. I like his look and considered filling my tag. Look at 4 inch sticker point.
