I empty the rest of my ammo into a nearby tree and try to blow all the bark and foliage off and better yet start a small fire with the sparks. Then when you get over to the area you can reference where you shot from by the big shiny pile of brass.

The Rifle is a model 94 Winchester in 25/35. This was the first rifle that my grandfather bought and the only one he ever had. He bought the rifle in the Prescott area, this deer was also killed with this rifle in the Prescott area. Pretty cool to have both of them, I can only imagine the miles that were walked carrying this rifle. I even have some of the original boxes of ammo.

Rugers don’t stocks don’t sit in a cradle like a 700 or 70. The front screw is in a wedge. 95in lbs is only 7ftlbs. The standard torque for that screw is 105 in lbs. so the screw will take it.

I love bear hunting, and it is my favorite hunting passion of all time. I am super close to pulling the trigger on a 2x1 fully-guided 10-day grizzly hunt this October 7-16, which is over my fall school break. All I need is a hunting buddy to fill the second slot. Cost is $5,750 and with your non-resident license $180, tag ($1,000), and guide tip. ($1,000)...you are sitting just south of $8k. That is an incredible deal for such a hunt! PM me if grizzly is on your bucket list and you have $8k to burn! 😁

Here's a thread where we can share some of our pronghorn hunting action. I am heading towards Unit 1 tomorrow. Will check in once in a while if I have something cool to share. Otherwise, best of luck to all of you guys out there chasing speed goats in the coming weeks! Have fun! If any of you are in the area up there and want to stop by camp, feel free. Send me a PM and I will get back to you when I have cell service. Should have it most of the time.

Just got it back from Swarovski for small repair and cleaning. Looks new. Glass is perfect. Comes with a neoprene horn hunter cover as well as a Swarovski hard travel case. Scope is in excellent condition. I live in Payson but travel to mesa most weekends. Only trades would be for Swarovski hd 15s. $1700 Scope has all caps and covers. Sorry about the sideways pictures

Toilet paper in a tree at the shot spot, mark a land mark and go for it. Look back at the t paper if needed for reference.

Old school way with a map and compass and a pencil. Find three known locations, shoot an azimuth with your compass to them, convert magnetic north to grid north, draw a back azimuth on your map from those 3 locations, where those lines intersect that is your location. Shoot another azimuth to where you think the animal went down, convert magnetic to grid north again, plot the 180 azimuth on your map to your location, then go get it. Or I'm sure one of those newfangled GPS units will do the same thing. Or make a mental note of where it went down, walk over to the spot and if it's not there lay down a marker of some sorts on the ground then walk in a circular pattern til you find it.

I feel a bit responsible for this ...I am preparing for a moose hunt in Idaho next month. The day before this was sent out I called AZGFD to check and see if there were any reatrictions on importing carcasses. I don’t see the big deal. Boned out meat is easier to transport and keep cool so I usually do that anyway. A cape can be dropped off with a local taxidermist to flesh and send to a tannery, capes aren’t that expensive to ship, but honestly I don’t kill many animals big enough to need a cape. If you are doing a shoulder mount then the skull cap is easy. The complete skull is a bit more of a challenge, guess you need to take a pot big enough to boil it in. A pot big enough for a moose skull is too big for me to haul around. So I called a local taxidermist and asked for a price to do the skull, he said it should be easy enough to get done within 24 hrs of dropping it off. Regardless this is a challenge in almost any case because most big skulls don’t fit in a cooler anyway so unless you let it rot on the drive home you have to do something with it. I am no expert, but I have educated myself a bit about CWD, and I can tell you I don’t want it in AZ. No one knows for certain how it spreads but the prions are found in the brain matter and spinal column, hence the requirement to clean skulls and debone meat. It’s likely only a matter of time before it is detected in AZ but anyway that we can slow the progression is very beneficial. CWD can have big effects on populations and it’s recommended that humans not consume CWD positive animals. Having that in the back of your mind while you are hunting would suck. Coupled with the fact that there is no known way to “decontaminate” an area once it occurs so I am all for doing anything reasonable to prevent spread of the disease. We have been very fortunate in AZ thus far and it would be great to keep it that way.

If you bring your deer or elk back the way most people do, boned meat, cape and a clean skull plate it doesn’t affect you in any way. Has nothing to do with antelope or bears. They’ve been doing this for years in almost all states east of AZ.

Ah..... Bingo!!! Totally skimmed over that part. I'm going with that, then! (So I can now openly admit that I brought a pronghorn head in from New Mexico on Sunday night. )

They just took the money out of our local taxidermist’s hands. Not a very well thought out statute and definitely a knee jerk reaction, IMO.

Curious on the big business thingy?? That being said, I'm also very curious about many of the questions already posed. Is this already in effect??? I hunted pronghorn in New Mexico with my sons last weekend. Luckily we de-bone our meat, but without incriminating myself, I will say that our normal tact would have to bring the head and/or horns along with us too. 🙄🤨 Yikes! S.

The Democrat party leaders and Main stream media have attempted to "declare" that President Trump is mentally unstable. They even bring "experts" on to try to make their case to the public. If they are willing to tar and feather a sitting president, imagine what they will do to you and your hunting buddies if they get red flag laws passed. Some "community organizer" will get 20, 50, 1000 followers to sign a petition that says your gun is a direct threat to their safety and mental well being to take your scary looking gun away. Don't laugh, this is all too real.
