I am a pretty average hunter and a below average gear guy, I use 150 dollar binoculars that I bought ten years ago. I usually use the two second rule in judging if its a shooter or not. Listening to Jay Scott Podcast, I hear him use the term 'cream' quite a bit. If Jay is the cream, I am more like grounds. To use a fishing analogy he would be in the private boat with a captains chair and my preference would be swigging coors lights on a party boat learning from other guys swigging coors lights. For the most part I do not like waiting for tags with this exception, I wanted to hunt the AZ strip once in my life. I will post daily as cell service allows my views and pics from 13b. People keep telling me I need to get a guide or buy a scouting package. Although I am sure it would help with my success, I consider hunting to be a test of what I know and what my intended quarry knows, (that and two daughters college tuition payments pretty much rules out buying anything) Here are some pics from my scouting. Big shout out to shane koury for helping me decide what a shooter is this year and pointing me in the right direction to check. First Buck seen Too cute not to stop and take a pic First real bucks A big three in the afternoon MY bison hunt sucked the majority of my vacation so my intention is to hunt the first few days then ten days starting just before labor day weekend. either my failure or success will be epic.

The Rifle is a model 94 Winchester in 25/35. This was the first rifle that my grandfather bought and the only one he ever had. He bought the rifle in the Prescott area, this deer was also killed with this rifle in the Prescott area. Pretty cool to have both of them, I can only imagine the miles that were walked carrying this rifle. I even have some of the original boxes of ammo.

This is the single best topic i have seen in 15 years on the forum. Millions of hunters the world over can only dream of such an awesome hunt for the magical Coues deer in the sky islands of Arizona or on the rim. None of us get up at 3am for blake owens or the daily politics-we get up to fulfill our passions for the remaining wild outdoors. Burning legs getting up to that high saddle or rocky point at daylight. Getting to see and experience sights and emotions perhaps no one else ever will, or has, and we should spend some time writing it down and passing it on. The new seasons are upon us-even the next month will bring special memories and even some trophy's. And that little velvet s;pike-someone's first ever archery buck-would be far more interesting to read about than a thousand posts of political crap. This forum has changed-a lot of good hunters have left and its our loss-I don't think I would have joined the way it is now. Why did we run off all those good people? lee

It's not really score that's driving me. I'm sort of using the supreme courts definition of porn. I know it when I see it.

On the edge of my seat buddy! I have a feeling you will show is it doesn’t take remarkable amounts of money to have a remarkable hunt.

My moms lasagna reheated and a handle of captain for dessert. But I usually hunt from my house.

Looking like only a slight chance. We had a great breeding season for them, so hopefully some stick around. Friends in Yuma tell me the numbers are beyond outstanding!

That’s not going to be easy to set in.

I HAVE HUNTED 35 A about 50 years- know the area about as good as anyone. Yes, you can do it just as you said . maybe you should get one with an all wheel drive- for the small back roads, Sometimes we have big storms about Turkey-time, But it dries up fast. Good luck. You should have no problem finding a nice Gobbler. Gould Gobblers are big, and the most beautiful off all turkey. I know of about 8 watering holes - right off HWY 83; That could end your hunt too quick.

I keep getting pics from my buddy who is a game warden. Apparently not many locals have the tag this year so some of his friends keep sending him pics to share with me. It’s getting hard to focus at work with these coming in. Some more Teton River bulls from last year. A bull he checked in from my unit last year. He saw this bull the other day. Bonus points for being close to the road. And this one came from one of his buddies while I was brushing my teeth. Now I have to clean the bathroom mirror.

EB I-8 yesterday I’m 90% sure I saw a dead female antelope on the left about 25 miles west of Gila Bend? Very odd and I was driving fast but pretty sure I saw what I saw.

This for all those times you forgot or even lost your Hunting/Fishing License or just want to have a backup license Take a picture of it on your phone !. That way if it gets lost in the field or misplaced or forgotten at home - or what ever reason - you have a copy with you I can't see where this wouldn't be accepted by any normal Warden / Game and Fish Officer in the field ! It is proof you have a license - most hunters carry a phone everywhere anyway- theses days What's your thoughts ? I've used this method to send documents before as I don't have a scanner / fax machine at home . most States specify you must carry a license with you in the field

That’s pretty typical country for eastern Idaho. Sort of like the Midwest butted up against the rocky’s. The unit composition is pretty unique, with town limits, ag land, some desert stuff and a few ridges that are pushing the tree line. I spent a lot of time there during my college years and am anxious to get back into those hills. Lots of good memories. The NR draw odds aren’t terrible for this unit, so if you want to scout it go ahead and come on up. I’ll provide the pack frame.

Hells Half Acre 2006 along about 1968 that fellow there Bob Kyhn and i started hunting lizards and snakes around far east mesa. by the end of the 1970's we had hunted, trapped and fished our way across every rock in eastern Arizona. Bob was there for my first mulie and i was there for his first Coues deer. i almost got us killed during a spring scouting trip in the goldfields about 1975 but Bob saved the day. the 1980's brought us both brides and kids followed by a new passion. Bob got sheep fever, i started suffering from tuna fever and we both hunted hard. i moved back to Arizona in 1993, bought some good glass and got this great mentor who guided for Duwane Adams. evil grin. had some times from Bill Williams mountain to Four Bar Mesa and down to Sasabe. this 2006 bull is one i can never forget. Bob and Rex Cullifer worked their butts off for free getting me the shot on this old bull with 58" of mass. lots of character, not much score, couldn't have been happier. when we started looking at the bulls in this country Bob wanted to make sure i could get the job done at 500yds with my pre64 30/06. it was about shooting light plus 2 minutes when a 16yo friend of Bobs eyeballed it and Mr. Kyhn said "6x6 474yds". i set up on my tripod with a Webster bino strap mount on it(remember those?) and started to squeeze a nosler partition off when a car alarm started gioing off about 600yds up the hill. really. i closed the deal with one shot, it took over 7 hours to get the packs out and the novice father and son Bob and Rex invited helped make the day. i was recovering from a pinched nerve and they had to tie my left hand to the bulls antler as i packed the head out on my back. can not get any better. this was a long time ago but its all about the good friends who made it possible-all i had to do was make the shot. i was hoping not to disappoint them. i can't take pics or write like Amanda or Bill Quimby but i gave it a shot. i'll never get to do it again. lost track of Bob when he ended up in the hamberlin camp. lee

99 per cent of the deer are on top at that time. even during the late hunt deer are often still in top. if you want to hunt down there I would scout it before the season.

I provide the trailer and my guests do the cooking. Lol The only meal I cook is elk steak with a fried egg on top with ranch beans and potato salad. I hate cooking.

I have yet to see any factory-produced rifle out shoot a Tikka. My one and only complaint with them is their short barrel lengths.
