Just got back from a 1.5 Day trip with Tomahawk Sportfishing out of Fisherman's Landing. Excellent crew, comfortable and roomy fishing platform. Left the dock on Wednesday night, fished all day Thursday and returned on Friday early morning. The trip was sponsored by Accurate Fishing, which was a HUGE bonus! Lots of nice bling on the boat to fish with! They hooked it up! Thanks a lot to David one of the owners, and Justin and the rest of the Accurate crew on board. Incredible generosity to let everyone fish with their stuff, no questions asked. They brought probably 50 rigs on board for everyone to use. They also had T shirts for everyone on board. Now on to the fishing...The decision was made to go way south and fish Yellowtail on kelp patties and if everything went well we would hit the tuna grounds for Bluefin, time permitting. We ended up way offshore of Punta Colonet, maybe even a little further south. It was a LONG run! The weather was windy and the swell was probably 5-6 feet on average with a few huge rollers probably 8 feet or so. Got a little hairy out there at times and made locating kelp patties really hard. The crew was on it though and worked their butts off trying to find the right zone. We hit the first kelp around 9 AM. I got hooked up but didn't get a good hook set and my fish came off. We ran for probably another hour or so and the boat got a few more, probably about 5 or 6 fish for each of the first two stops. It took quite a while before we found the next spot but from there things went pretty wide open. They found kelp after kelp and before long most people had their limit. I probably got bit 7 or 8 times and put 5 on the boat. The best one I got was probably around 10 pounds or so and the rest were of a little smaller grade but still really fun! Pretty good fishing for the yellows unfortunately we ended up way too far south to be able to hit the tuna grounds. It was around 6 PM when we started heading North again for port. Got back to the landing around 7:30 AM or so. All in all I had a great time. Didn't get one of the bigger bluefin that have been around but nobody on the boat did either. One dorado and 117 yellowtail for 27 anglers. The rough conditions beat us up pretty good and there were a lot of guys that were pretty green by the end of the day. Had about half a dozen kooks on board that made things kinda tough. Wouldn't follow their lines, would cast right across you, even with a fish on. Regular rookie stuff for most trips but a few of those dudes just couldn't get with the groove. The rest of the guys were really cool to fish with and met a few pretty hardcore hunters too. Even saw my first wild sea turtle which was way cool! Can't say much more, but if you are ever looking for a boat to fish on out of San Diego, consider the Tomahawk. They have a great operation! https://www.sandiegofishreports.com/fish_reports/151302/tomahawk-1.5-day-trip-wrap-up-(late).php

Lol my favorite time on CWT is after elk and deer draw but before the hunts start. Always high tension.

When I picked up a couple pistols from him was pretty crochity through the entire dealings but while we were exchanging funds he opened up and said he had cancer and was trying to liquidate his firearms so his family would have to. I think if I was dying and had to give up my toys too boot I probably wouldn't be a ray of sunshine either. He always did say what he was thinking even though we might not agree. I'll miss him either way.

So you should expect deer to act like kids growing up in the east coast? But wait does that mean AZ deer don’t like to play in rain also.... Or should we glass for out of state deer???

Wow great deal. I can't believe there are this any guys that think vortex are better. If I didn't just buy som glass I'd pick these up.

Just cover up and glass as soon as it pass's. A lot of times the deer will get moving right after as it cools things off.

Buffalo goes where buffalo wanna go. GF and the feds can spend money rounding them up and plunking them down on the prairie at the House Rock but, those animals are going to remember that it is cooler and safer on top and go back. It wont take them any time at all to be back where they started. Fences are meaningless to them.

24" barrel, have the full choke for it. $350 or trade for similar camo gun with 28" barrel. Don't need 2 turkey guns.

Before January 2019, I hadn't taken a buck with a bow or taken one with a rifle since 2016. For 2017 and 2018 rifle seasons, I told my husband if I couldn't find one at least 85", I was going to pass. Coues meat is my favorite, but we had enough for the two of us with his bucks. Passed a handful of nice bucks on both hunts and had a couple blown stalks during the bow seasons. Opening morning of the 2018 rifle hunt, I glassed up 2 bucks a little over 500 yards away. The biggest was about a high 70's, maybe 80". Not wanting to shoot, we continued to glass. About 25 minutes later, we hear 2 guys walking up on us. My husband asked if I wanted to tell them about the bucks and I said sure. He tells them the distance and asked if they wanted to take one and the guy said "you bet!" We had him look through our optics that were a tripod so he would know where they were. He gets set up with his rifle and my husband gives him the range. He shoots and isn't even close... hits 3 feet below the bucks feet and way right. The buck doesn't even spook because the shot was so far off the mark and the other buck just continues to feed. He's getting ready to fire again and my husband told him to hold on and shoot our rifle. It's dead on... I took an antelope with it with one shot at 709 yards. My husband sets up the gun and dopes it for him. The guy slides behind the rifle and can't find the buck in the scope. After a few looong minutes of my husband dialing the power on the scope up and down for him, he finds him and is ready. We get in our binos, tell him just hold right on him and smoothly squeeze the trigger. The gun sounds off and the buck takes 5 steps and is down for the count. The guy is so excited! I think he thanked us and shook my husband's hand about 6 times. lol It was a great feeling to help someone and see them so appreciative and happy. Fast forward to January 2019..... We are on the archery javelina hunt and I always have an OTC deer tag. We have put in almost 4 miles and the pigs have given us the slip twice. Back in December I had sprained my ankle and it was still pretty sore. I told my husband I needed to give it a break, so lets glass a little bit. We set up the tripods and are only in the glass about 3 minutes when he says those words we all love to hear..."I got a buck." What follows was even better..."He's a good one." We didn't have to do "rock, paper, scissors" to figure out who gets to go after him, because he didn't get an OTC tag this year. Lucky me! The buck was feeding in certain direction and the wind was good. To make an already long story short, I was able to position myself in front of where the buck was trying to go. I was in the shade and had good cover. I had time to tell myself..."Make this count. This doesn't happen every day. Stay calm, aim and follow through." I had ranged a few areas where I thought he was going to come out as it was real thick. At the 40 yard clearing, he walked right on by. I can now see he is coming straight at me. I'm watching him through the brush and with the terrain, he's either going to keep on his path or turn and come broadside in front of me at 25 yards with a clear shooting lane. Well...he turns. This is it...it's gonna happen! Everything now slows way down...it was the strangest thing. Almost like slow motion. I can see him on the other side of the brush. I draw my bow and settle in. I see his nose clear the brush, then his eye. He has no clue I'm even here. Now his neck and then his shoulder. I place my pin in that sweet spot just behind the crease and follow him. My bow fires, I don't remember touching off the trigger. It hits it's mark. He spins and blows out of there running straight away from me, so I can't see the exit. I watch him disappear and crash into the brush. I'm trying to see if he comes out on the other side of the brush...he doesn't. I still haven't moved and I hear some huffing sounds that are either him or some pigs then all is quiet. I wait about 15 minutes and decide I can slip down and see if I can find my arrow quietly. I find it and good blood right away and mark it. My husband stayed up on the top of the ridge, so I figure I better go get him and let him know I hit the buck. From where he was at, he couldn't see me, but he heard the arrow hit and heard the buck take off. The second he sees me he asks "Well?" I will never forget the look on his face when I told him I hit him and it should be good. It's now getting late in the day and we're worried about it getting dark. Lucky we had one bar of service to get a call out to a great friend to head our way in case we needed help finding the buck in the thick stuff. It's now about 40 mins after the shot. My husband and I get down to my arrow where I marked the blood and start slowly tracking through the brush. A few drops here and there, nothing, then a big pile, then back to a few drops. I'm not gonna lie...I was wondering what the heck? Maybe I didn't hit him as good as I thought. Then, "There he is!" He is off to the left....in the thick brush...and he is done! I couldn't believe what just happened! From where he was shot, he went about 60 yards. So many things have to go just right. I'm so thankful it was meant to be for me! We had him hung in a tree and skinned when our friends got to us. 2019 has started off almost like a dream. Let's hope the good mojo continues. With 9 bonus points I have drawn an early archery bull tag. Please keep your fingers crossed!

I'm guessing you haven't spent too much time in the desert immediately after a rain, and no, downtown Tucson and Phoenix ain't where I'm talking about. Maybe its prdtrs fault for missing a single comma after the word AZ, but dang thats not the way to introduce yourself.

Unless you were born in AZ like most kids born elsewhere we would go out and play in the rain. Deer will just go about their business. If you spent the time to hike 1 or two miles would you really go back to teh truck because of a little rain?

I’ve glassed quite a few deer while it’s raining. Usually as soon as it quits you can catch them standing and shaking off

My Dad had two hunting buddies and one had the Az big ten from when I was a kid so probably finished in the sixties sometime, ironically the toughest one for him to get was an elk at that time. His bear story was the best, he and my Dad hiked our Mule into the Mazatzals, he shot the bear and it fell over an embankment, He was so excited he rushed to the edge and trip over it landing on the bear 10 ft below. My Dad looks over and Ray is clawing his way back up and he tells him it's all right, the bear is dead... He placed water all over the mountain before his sheep hunt so he didn't have to leave the mountain once up there and could move around... He killed his lion spotting during a deer hunt I think. It went into a boulder pile and died. He had to go back to town and since he was an engineer, my Dad was also, he was able to buy dynamite and they blasted the cat out. He is gone now but a great guy and huge influence on me. I doubt he ever applied for an award, just not that kind. I long ago decided I would settle for 8, sheep and buff are just something I haven't ever applied for, I will leave them for those that really want them. I've taken my big 8. I still think of Ray and how he made me a special dinner in camp after I took my first deer, a forky and how he bragged on my accomplishment because I walked out of camp on my own and did it myself.
