8 pointsI heard that Bashas owns Food City. I like Bashas, they put stores in towns that had nothing like San Carlos and Springerville. My mom worked for them as a cashier for a few years and one day a customer came up a little short so she covered it. He boss read her the riot act and a few weeks later Eddie Basha stopped by the store and my mom read him the riot act. He just laughed and said he probably would have done the same thing and told her she had a job there for as long as she ever wanted one. Mom passed in 2017 at 87 and always talked about "Eddie" and what a great guy he was.

6 pointsBack in the early 1900's they had a mercantile in Ray/Sonora. I grew-up in Kearny, and there was still one of the Lebanese families doing business in town in the 60's, 70's, 80's...... I like the fact that Bashas is a local AZ success story. Small town immigrants who made a great life here in the good ol' USA! Really is a cool 'American' story! Good stuff! Edit: Wanted to give props to the 'other' Lebanese family I referenced above. Dick Haddad was his name. He was an awesome guy, very active in Ray/Kearny civics, school, etc.. Raised a great family too! Good folks.

3 pointsMe and My wife of 35 Years have separated allmost 4 years. When I came back from working in the oil in N, Dakota She and a son stayed there to sell a new Mobile home I bought while up there. after 6 months she had enough of that place too and left but went back to her native Ohio.. Shock to Me. I have been back ther 10-11 times especially when my DAD was alive till 5 months ago. We get along great I allways stay with her when I go back as My DAD was only 80 miles away in Erie , PA. till He passed in March. Anyway She just told Me They found a Growth on Her lung that will get looked at on Weds. She's always been a smoker but not heavy. She did quit once for about 5-6 years if I remember right. She told Me they said it was benign or how ever you spell it. We will find out this week. We still care very much for each other ,talk 3-4 times a week I just don't wanna live in Youngstown Ohio and She doesn't want to l;ive in the heat anynore after 35 years here. We have 3 kids and they are srpead from Cal. to N. Carolina. She is only 61 I will be 63 in Sept. But last year same time my boss at work was only 58 and they found stuff on Her lungs. She was dead by Nov. She smoked 3 times as much as My wife but I am Very worried. I have had numerous health problems myself this year. Been in ER> 3 times and another time in Hospital for 5 days. But 2 hours ago talking to Her made me get the Whiskey out. I have a DR. apt. tomm. myself that is imporrtant but I am only worried about Her, If I have to I will go there and live and blow off a Colorado deer tag and a thanksgiving Coues tag. I can turn both in. She is the Best Woman You could ever meet. I just took to much for granted and Hunted too much or was gone to often. She is a Home Body person. What scares Me is She doesn't think she is bin trouble ,but She has lost a lot of weight in the last 18 months ,and Se was allready thin. I will Keek all updated end off the Week on Her. My Problems are Minor to Hers I think. Thanks all, You guys are like Family to Me. God Bless.....................BOB!

3 pointsMr Dillenburg, I received an email from one of our Board of Directors, asking that I read a forum on Coueswhitetail.com. After reading your initial statements about the Bar X Ranch, the USFS and your I’ll informed statement about water tanks, I knew exactly who had written this blog. Your group of environmentalists and “anti’s” are familiar to many Sportsmans organizations, the Gila County ranching community and the USFS, your reputation precedes you. A little about myself and the organization I represent, Arizona Mule Deer Organization (AMDO). My name is Jim Lawrence, president of AMDO. I have been in the wildlife conservation arena for over 15 years, served on the Board of Directors with National groups - Mule Deer Foundation and Arizona Wildlife Federation and have received several State / National awards for my conservation work. I sit on several committees with AZGFD, including the Habitat Partnership Committee (HPC) and the Landowner-Leasee-Sportsman Relationship Committee. I am also working on a Master Stewardship Agreement with USFS on all 6 forests in Arizona. AMDO is a 501 (c) 3 non profit conservation organization, who’s mission is to improve and enhance habitat for our struggling Mule Deer. You can find out more by visiting www.azmuledeer.org. AMDO is very familiar with the Bar X Ranch, I believe my organization can speak with confidence about the ranch, the owners and their commitment to wildlife and habitat conservation. Your comments about the Bar X Ranch couldn’t be any further from the truth. AMDO has worked extensively with Mike and Diana Hemovich and the Bar X Ranch over the past 6 years, developing waters for wildlife, rebuilding catchments, adding solar to all the Bar X Wells, adding water storage tanks and pipelines, removing old barbed wire fences that were a hazard to wildlife and even hosting a workshop for Chinese Forestry / Animal Biologists. Since purchasing the ranch 13 years ago, Mike and Diana have poured hundreds of thousands of dollars in to improving habitat and infrastructure for both their livestock and wildlife. As I work with ranch’s all over Arizona on a daily basis, you won’t find a more respected or trusted ranch. Here is a little info on the Bar X you might not know. In 2018, Mike Hemovich received one of AZGFDs highest honors, “Wildlife Steward of the Year” award, he is past president of the Society for Range Management, current President of the Gila County Cattle Growers Association and actively participates with USFS in yearly range monitoring on the ranch. Mike and Diana take a science based approach to managing the ranch, working closely with USFS and other organizations to monitor conditions on the ranch. With respects to USFS and the Tonto National Forest, here again you won’t find a better managed and respected team of professionals than the Tonto. We work with all Arizona forests and can speak with experience. I’m sure my letter here today will not stop your groups continued and unwarranted harassment of both the Bar X and the USFS, but wanted to assure you that we fully support them. Lastly, it’s obvious that you are either ill advised or sadly uninformed about the correlation between ranchers, wildlife and waters. I would love to show you hundreds of photos of Arizona wildlife, watering at ranch built and maintained water sources. Without these waters our wildlife would surely suffer. I’d like to invite you to visit the Bar X with me at your convenience, where you will see how development of these waters has exploded the population of Turkey, Elk, Deer and Bears. Water development is AMDO’s specialty, so we do know a little bit about the subject. Jim Lawrence President Arizona Mule Deer Organization

2 pointswhen A. J. Bayless grocery failed Bashas' bought it out and gave all tenured employees the full benefits accrued at aj. eddie basha was as close to a saint as the local economy has ever seen. most of the remote stores started off as bayless. everyone was surprised when eddie kept the A J fine foods line-it was 2 managers of A J Fine Foods that guided and packed my bull out of hells half acre in 2006. johnny has had a tough time of it but they made it though the toughest stretch. i spent a little time at work with Eddie circa 1984 and will always have respect for that family. lee

2 pointsI currently live about a 1/2 mile from where I grew up. There was a Bashas built in our area in 1965. I still go there, there are cashiers that have been there 30+ years. Eddie Basha was a good man.

1 pointI am excited today as I got to spend some time in the pen with my new pup. "Clover" is a German wire-haired pointer like Rica was. I sense that good times, adventures and quail hunts lie ahead. The pups are five weeks old today, so it will be another three before the home schooling begins.

1 pointPre-fab turret + factory loads + stock rifle isn’t a good recipe for 1000+ yards. Way too many variables when you get that far. If you get set up with a legit ranging system (sig kilo abs or similar) can find a load (or find someone to find a load for you) that groups 1/2-3/4 Moa and then shoot the heck out of it it’s possible, but “custom” turrets and a sighted in rifle aren’t the answer in this case.

1 pointClover is 11 weeks old now. Housebreaking was quick. She's sleeping through most nights in her kennel without needing to be taken out. Working on "come" now, although butterflies are a solid distraction.

1 pointWent this past weekend with the wife and 3 of the kids. Baby girl caught her first fish and the youngest boy caught the biggest trout I've seen come out of there. Fish got some revenge though and smacked him in the face! That being said it's been slow bit still worth going. We've been using the small pretied treble hooks and a small pret tied bait hook to the swivel, split shot about 6" up and an egg sinker after that. By far we catch the most fish on the pautske pink shrimp flavored salmon eggs. After that would be xhartruese or salmon flavored power bait.

1 pointYou can put just any kind of beast in a crock pot with some beef broth, onions, chiles, garlic etc and have it come out edible.

1 pointIt might be. I also caught mine with peanut butter (the crunchy kind seems choice). Not sure me and you are lookin at the same rodents though. Rats, mice and gophers also run across rural roads. Are there upsides to hantavirus? Is it similar to quick weightloss plans like montezumas revenge?
