    If I had land in 33 I would close it off too. 33 is ridiculous, there is hunt after hunt with 500 plus tags in the unit. There is 9 rifle and muzzleloader hunts in a row. That doesn't count the over the counter archery tags in august, September, December and January. Signs shot up, trash left out, people not closing gates, people not signing in at locations the Game and Fish is trying to work with the landowner. Most people have no respect these days, I'd close it too if it was my land. If people respected private land maybe things would be different. I'm not saying that's why this specific case is closed, but we would be a lot better off if we closed gates, stayed on the roads and picked up our garbage and casings. The bad apples are hurting our access all over this state.

    I spent last evening and this morning overlooking Mormon Lake. There is still plenty of water, which kept the herds of elk closer to camera range, but still a long way out even at 500mm. There were two large groups of elk and many groups of a few. I did expect to see more calves for the number of cows though.

    If you want a guide I would do it!!!!! This is once in a lifetime and those guys know what their doing. Personally if I drew one of those units I would use a guide to find the biggest Ram in the unit. Also I would use Chris Harlow to guide me and be my Taxidermist he's the best in the business.

    Finally at 55, started at 18...unit 42 or 44bs....had 29 bps( 1 under max,missed year daughters were born),,still hasn't sunk in yet

    Happy Independence Day! Sure, I’m posting this on the 2nd of July but July 2, 1776 was the day when the Second Continental Congress passed the resolution of independence which severed the legal ties between the U.S. and the monarchy of Great Britain. In fact, John Adams thought July 2nd would be the day recognized and celebrated as our Independence Day. The day we celebrate our independence, however, is the Fourth of July. As we all learned in school, that’s the day the Declaration of Independence was signed. Basically, the Declaration of Independence was a statement of the reasons why the Continental Congress passed the resolution of independence. (Because it was Congress, there was a fair amount of debate, negotiation, and compromise to reach the agreed upon verbiage so it took them a couple days.) The final product was almost poetic. We all remember this part: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” To those of you who have worn the uniform of our Country, I thank you for your service. For those of you how have stood up for human and civil rights in order to make “a more perfect Union”, I thank you for your service. To those who have served in the legislature or answered the call to jury service or willingly paid your taxes (notice I didn’t say “happily”), that’s also important service. Thank you too. I’m amazed that 243 years later, we’ve persisted with this crazy idea that “We, the People” can govern ourselves. One last interesting Founding Father fact. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both signed the Declaration of Independence and both served as President and both died on the exact same day, the Fourth of July, 1826. Fifty years, to the day, from the day they signed the Declaration of Independence.

    The land owners are hunters too... they are fed up with game and fish like most other hunters who are sick of game and fish issuing too many tags and depleting the deer herds!

    Correct! I just got hit for my son's first Jr tag! I almost fell outta my chair when I saw the hit on the bank.... Freaking 5 days later woooohoooo, fingers crossed maybe I'll get my tag too.

    What about access coming in by piety hill? Is that what is shut off or the access from the San Pedro?

    I did this when I moved from Maine to Michigan, and traveled through Canada. I showed the paperwork at the border, was sent to the inspection line. before my trip, I was given the advice to remove my bolt and put it in a suitcase, and I also disassembled a shotgun that I had and put parts into different boxes. They liked that and sent me on my way instead of making me tear apart my car for the parts.

    If activist do put in for the draw then that lowers the harvest objective for a unit and increases the tag allocation the next go around. In theory.

    It’s not activists. It’s Instagram pages like Mathews archery that did a film in January telling everyone about seeing 500 deer, it’s pages like hushin that go out of their way to make sure everyone knows the opportunity in AZ, etc. but the funny thing is all the people who think October- early December is anything like January are in for a rude awakening.
