    I’m glad Amanda came up the “Non-hunting related Politics” forum. It’s made the site more enjoyable for folks who just want to share information and experiences on hunting, hiking, fishing, shooting, backpacking, etc. because we can now do so without having to wade through numerous overtly political threads. I’ve learned so much by being a member on here for more than a decade. Sure, politics are important. I’m glad people hold political beliefs. I certainly hold them. I’m glad people discuss politics publicly because that’s the market place of ideas where we can critically scrutinize and pressure test our own ideas and those of others. We can change our views if convinced we were wrong about something or we can have more confidence in our convictions if, when exposed to challenges and different viewpoints, we emerge more convinced of our position. So we win either way. If someone wants to talk politics with me, I’m happy oblige. If, however, someone wants to talk politics at me, well, I’ve never found that useful. Often, the political topics in the Campfire forum devolved into simplistic, intransigent, name-calling full of logical fallacies. That’s not helpful, not productive, and not fun. I go with the premise that we are all Americans and that we all want what’s best for America. I also believe that we have different ideas for how to best keep this Republic humming along in the most efficient and sustainable way. Throughout human history, Democracy has been the exception, not the rule. The fact that we have, for the last 243 years or so, governed ourselves without a monarchy, without an oligarchy, without a plutocracy, is pretty remarkable. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” can and, indeed, should have direct, thoughtful, and serious discussions about our society and politics. It’s our enemies that want us to see our fellow Americans with different ideas as “others” who represent an existential threat to our way of life, not worthy of being treated with dignity and respect, and to have us be divided by stereotypes, tropes, and simplistic name calling. I guess I took the long way around the barn on this but I’m glad Amanda came up the “Non-hunting related Politics” forum.

    It's a law in AZ they cant. Simple fix, allow a backup credit card to be charged if the first one were declined. Or, have a tutorial video on the website to show how to update cards. 🤪

And now they are swimming around in the reclaimed sewage in the Santa Cruz river park Downtown Tucson. The homeless bums are going to enjoy their new park environment.     I've been eyeballing pretty much same rig, Okuma PCH 741 xxh and the Penn Fathom 40NLD2. Good to go for 60 or 80#. Maybe not for the 300# cows at the Rocks or the Lupe but should give a fighting chance at a local bluefin. You can also always rent a 60# or 80# 2 speed rig at the Landing.

    Its hard to argue with a .243 in a bolt gun for deer. I love it, because its such a versatile round, as are most in the 6-6.5mm family of cartridges. They can all fit so many roles.

    Totally agree! I'm biased, the 6.5x55 is my favorite of all time, but only because its an amazing round. .264 as well, and I'd say .257 Weatherby is another underappreciated cartridge.

    From the inception of the on line draw I have used a pre-paid wal-mart money card. It has worked flawlessly. Before that I used money orders. Pre-paid is the way to go. Imo

    Trump is targeting the wrong border to build the wall on, it needs to be our western one. Let the Kalifruties stay put and keep their dipstick ideas on that side of the river. They are fargin up the Arizona I used to love.

    we hear tons of them at night, called in a few during the day(in the pines). I'll be doing some night hunting up there this year for sure as its open again. kids up there today and tomorrow trying to get yotes and sheds, no luck so far they havent seen an elk or even a deer. we didn't last weekend either she said its dead up there they saw on squirrel .and we didnt hear any at night or 1st thing in the morning like normal either. we have had good luck on the flats(drake road) but you have to shoot 500 yards or more not a problem for me . we will call them in and they come right to the edge of the junipers a few at a time.. That pond on the south side od road we usually sit up on the bluff in that small stand of pines and shoot them walking to the tank.

    After the Yarnell Fire, they’re not going to send guys in willy nilly into a wilderness area chock-full of heavy fuels, box canyons and steep drainages, along with erratic winds, without assessing firefighter safety first. As others have mentioned, not calling planes sooner, I believe they were already committed to the Mountain fire burning near Bartlett lake. By that time, the Woodbury fire took off and was too late. Since there were no ground crews actively working the fire line in the Woodbury fire, they couldn’t use the planes since they work together. Just a perfect storm for that wilderness to go up in flames. It'll come back. Gotta keep guys safe first.

    You know how to tell the difference between black bear scat and grizzly scat? Grizzly bear scat smells like pepper and has silver bells in it. Old Montana Joke. Back in my late teens and early 20's, I would spend plenty of time in the high ranges where Montana's grizzlies dwell. They'd come visit our camp at night. Footprints left around the tent told the story the next morning. I'd hear them wake me up in the middle of the night as I could hear their noses working double time right outside the tent. I'd usually end up falling back to sleep before they were gone. I'd wake up not knowing if I was dreaming about what I heard, but the tracks around the tent re-affirms my foggy memory. Back then, I'd never carry anything for defense. I'd just rely on the fact that there are hundreds of backpackers that will be spending nights up in these mountain tops all summer long and there is almost never conflicts in the summer. I;d pass others going the other way during the hike up and I'd pass others when I head out. In the fall bears attitudes change. Grizzes get so much more hostile and desperate in the fall. Now a days, I have one of my 444 Marlins set as a camp rifle shooting 400gr big meplat cast bullet at 1900 fps. Plus I have a Smith &Wesson model 69 44 mag 5 shot with 4 1/4" barrel shooting Buffalo Bore 330gr ammo rated around 1325fps, but I haven't run it over the chrony from my revolver. The round will rattle your teeth, but I can shoot it with either hand and only need one hand to shoot it. I'll eventually work up a load for my 44 mag using one of my own cast bullets.
