2 pointsIdgaf FYI troopers have not had a raise in many many years, they get 1.5% to cover rising insurance cost. I retired in 2013 making. $62,000 a. Year after 25 years of service to this state. So. You cut that in half my retiement is $31,000 year and $1200 a month for health insurance, so that leaves me bout $800 a month for protecting your butt for 25 mtf years and u are welcome because of of people like this.

1 pointI am not and educator and ceased college a year and a half before achieving my degree. That was a mistake. I have found that, as a parent having children late in life, teachers cannot not be solely responsible for my child's education. We started with reading to them every night. Books were special and gifts. We taught them our values and explained why ours varied at times from others. We taught them acceptance and tolerance of others and their opinions without having to agree or debate, unless invited to debate-and then in a civil manner. We taught them to respect others and not to judge without understanding the circumstances. Defend their selves when necessary but reduce and avoid conflict. Try to make things easier for others, especially teachers, while understanding everyone is imperfect, including us. They learned to play a musical instrument and participated in their school's orchestra. Knowledge and understanding are critical along with a strong work ethic. We researched our schools and their programs. When the school in our area was struggling with the challenge of kids whose parents left all of their education to the school and the teachers, we boundary-exceptioned them and drove our kids to schools where parents supported the teachers. We figured out that teachers get over whelmed and face an impossible task in areas where parents don't support the teachers and don't get parental help teaching the parent's children. Teachers cannot do it all alone. The school districts have one main fact screwed up. The teachers and kids are the assets, the school buildings and fixtures are the expenses. I'd rather have my child do without comforts and the pretty things but have the best teacher. Aristotle, Leonardo Di Vinci, etc. lacked the great comforts we enjoy and taught under trees and where ever. Teachers, schools, and school districts all vary. Parent's attitudes vary as well. But it is the parent’s responsibility to raise their child and be active and vigilant in their child’s education. Our kids are our greatest asset and legacy. We all need to make them our primary responsibility. Our lives come second once we have kids. We can still have fun and enjoy life. We may be broke, but we are rich beyond measure in our children. Each of my children is half of me, and I will live on long after my life ends. I'm taking care of me when I take care of my kids. May you be as wealthy in life. Just do your best at taking care of all of you. And spoil yourself on occasion. Be very involved in your children’s lives and education. Support the teachers, criticizing when absolutely necessary, but work with them. And don’t be too serious all of the time. The joke was funny and I could see it happening.

1 pointGood article! What's the old saying? Closing the barn door after the horses have left? In this case, literally. Even the Salt River herd is getting worse. Heading north yesterday, I saw them about a mile or so NORTH of the Bush Highway turnoff. First time I've seen them there. They were grazing on the west side of SR87. Appears they're expanding their range north towards Sycamore creek. Between the horses and burros, the blame falls completely with the Forest Service and BLM.

1 pointWould they try to arrest 1000 people if we just started shooting them? Eventually this is what will happen.

1 pointNo experience with cameras, but the acoustic electronic targets are great fun for practice. I have a Silver Mountain Solo I use all the time for Palma and 1000 yard practice at Ben Avery. Others on the line have Shotmarkers and the Silver Mountain G2s which appear to be the most foolproof. They also provide velocity data/statistics for bullet speed through target face.

1 pointRetire early??? It's a young man's game, folks (LEO, Fire). When you call 911 for someone outside your house at night trying to steal something, do you REALLY want a 55-60 year old officer responding and trying to catch a 20 years old tweaker that takes off running and gunning? Just being a realist........the amount of worker's compensation claims would skyrocket as well..........IMO, it's a young man's game. For those in it, hopefully they'll get out while they can still function well. I did 30 years and maxed out........I'm still in good shape (physically), but can't do the things I was once able to due to on-the-job injuries sustained over the years. JMO of course.

1 point"get to retire young......." That's funny right there. We ALL own our path to retirement, and with smart & prudent planning anyone can retire "young". https://money.usnews.com/investing/investing-101/slideshows/11-steps-to-retire-at-50-according-to-fire-retirement-pros My kids are young adults, and I take every chance I get to council them and chat about starting to save for retirement NOW when they are young. I don't necessarily expect them to plow head first into the 'FIRE' mentality, but with proper long-term attention, anyone their age has a good chance at retiring earlier than the norm (The time value of money is a powerful thing.....). S. (Edit: Sorry to original poster for the thread hijack..... LOL)

1 pointFirst off thank you for your career path, Secondly, I am impressed with your financial wherewithal that you can retire after twenty five years. I am twenty years into my profession and have another 25 years or so before I can even consider it. After some research its not 62mil duecey expects to get from this fee, its 165 mil. I hope he shares with you guys and increases retirement benefits with the generated income.

1 pointI respect law enforcement and abide by as many rules as I can. They’ve helped me before and scolded me before. But isn’t it their job to help the public? Paid by tax dollars, citizens protected by the 1st to voice an opinion. If a tax payer doesn’t care for dps it doesn’t make them any less worthy of their service.

1 pointRoosevelt Mark you are absolutely right you don't owe me shoot, and I chose my profession. Just remember next time you need someone to save your butt don't call the police because we owe you nothing.

1 pointWow. Ive pretty much always thought you were a douche, based on your posts. However, now I know you are.

1 pointGreat numbers.... unfortunately you forgot about the support staff that are not sworn officers. Disagree with the amount of the fee, not with what the money is supposed to be used for.

1 pointTopped out troopers now make $65,830. Not much of a raise in 6 years, in fact 11 years. Troopers made $62,000 in 2008. Insurance went up this year with no raise but the sworn listed above come to work every day with a vest on proudly.
-
1 pointI know. So rediculous to expect the people that serve the community and come whenever the public calls to drive a reliable cars. Oh ya, average fleet is over 70k, so most of the cars are old. One more note, DPS sworn make 5.5% more then they did in 2008. I mean, just absurd they have received a 5.5% raise in 11 years. A whole $3,000, which does not cover the insurance increases and cost of living that has went up over that time. Everyone of the troopers would appreciate a raise but come to work to serve without it.

1 pointFor the most part is beats the other option, look at what they are trying to doing in dc. Medicare for all the new green deal. If they keep it up we will all be pedaling our bikes to go hunting everyone will have to become archers because they want our guns and you will be rowing your boat to go fishing 🎣 it’s all a bunch of BS
