Been trolling on this site for years and finally decided to make a profile. Drew a 35a Gould's tag this year with 14 bonus points. Set up this morning and had alot of turkeys talking all around us but nothing would commit in. At 7:30 we Decided to try another area and we found 3 toms together on the hill side. Made our way over there and found a single Tom by himself on a closer hill. Get over to him and bump him and he takes off. Took a chance and kept looking for him and found him walking around at 150 yards. Circled around him and we came up at the perfect spot. Ended up being a 10 yard shot. I know it will be years again but I can't wait to be drawn again.

Took a small hike to check a camera one last time before the mother nature drops the heat hammer. This is a new spot so I wasn't sure what would show up.... no giants but, I was pleasantly surprised. Its probably worth keeping tabs on.... On the way out, I stumbled across these little treasures.. always makes it worth the walk Its going to be a long summer. Thanks for looking. Dave

Welcome to the site!! Folks are not likely to drop tips to a brand new member here based on a 'first post' request for tips (Just kind of the way it is..... ). Check this out: https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/units/pinetop/3b/ There is some good basic info there. I would suggest a scouting trip or two, as the G&F report suggests. Then maybe come back on here and let folks know what you've discovered. You will likely find someone who would be willing to share a bit at that point. Good luck! S.

I just returned from a grand adventure Campeche, Mexico and it was a fantastic experience! The deep southrn portion of Mexico is totally different from the north.. very different vibe, quite different foods, etc. Oh yea, and loads of turkeys! I was able to take a great Ocellated gobbler the very first morning. The birds would hit the ground about 6:10am and start singing all morning til about 9am. They were also responding to the calls readily both in the morning and the evening. We hunted them classic style off the ground as well as Campeche style by slinging hammocks off the forest floor about 12-15 ft up. That was a new one for me! Very cool way to get off the bare forest floor and out of the turkey’s insane ability to spot you. We saw loads of grey brocket deer sign but just ran out of time to try for a buck. But I’ll be back next spring! Found a few jaguar tracks too. The Ocellated turkey makes 4/6 for me on my way towards the Grand/Royal/World slams with me heading to Vermont and New Hampshire next week to try for a New England Eastern doubler header/double stater! Definitely looking forward to try and get that number 5 gobbler next weekend! Muchas gracias to mi amigo in Campeche for setting everything up for me. What a great time!

My friends Mike and Darby Middleton in Chino Valley have two male German Wire-haired Pointer pups for sale. They were whelped March 22, so are 5 weeks old now. They will be good to rehome in another 3 weeks. Both dam and sire are AKC registered. Their dam is "Rizer' and comes from Central basin Kennels in Camp Verde. Eragon is the sire from Flagstaff and is dark colored. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Darby Middleton at DarbyMiddleton(at)gmail(dot)com or nine28four20441five. Darby is asking $750 for the males. "Drive" Pup #1 He is the smallest pup in the litter of 6 and has the best facial markings, imo.

If I was looking right now I’d be looking at this in person. I’d avoid fiberglass. Since the states alittle Rocky https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/boa/d/scottsdale-crestline-aluminium-fishing/6873406002.html https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/boa/d/peoria-awesome-boat-2001-aluminum/6860040768.html

Also, just to make sure, check yourself for dominant eye. Maybe you already have, but if you are cross-dominant it can do strange things to your sight picture. forepaw

You should be able to look at just about every buck in the unit. I’m not much help on spots as the places you listed are all the places I’ve seen them in there. Pick the biggest one out and keep your finger on him and pray an archery hunter doesn’t kill him before you get a chance. Kill him at opening light. I could be wrong but there haven’t been a ton of huge bucks that came out of there. Someone posted one on here years back that was a toad but I’d be real surprised if there’s an 82” buck in there. Never know though!!

Thanks guys. Reading your comments absolutely makes me more confident in what is going on and they are very much appreciated. I think the first thing to try is to raise my cheek to stock to eliminate the inconsistency in sight picture. The next thing I look forward to doing is shooting from the prone. I have never been able to get completely comfortable on a bench, and even though a good bipod and squeeze bag are making me very steady and my groups are tight I'm still ending up leaning over the gun and reinforcing bad form. I would bet dollars to pesos that without realizing it yesterday I was leaning over and around the rifle rather than squaring up on it then dropping my cheek which was sure to change my sight picture. Okay the plan is set. Thanks again.

They should amend the rescue to be like the "stupid motorist" law.... if you knowingly drive into a flooded wash and get stuck, you pay for the rescue... could be the same for hiking... if they show up and you're standing there in sandals, just know youre gonna pay. ha ha

"get to retire young......." That's funny right there. We ALL own our path to retirement, and with smart & prudent planning anyone can retire "young". https://money.usnews.com/investing/investing-101/slideshows/11-steps-to-retire-at-50-according-to-fire-retirement-pros My kids are young adults, and I take every chance I get to council them and chat about starting to save for retirement NOW when they are young. I don't necessarily expect them to plow head first into the 'FIRE' mentality, but with proper long-term attention, anyone their age has a good chance at retiring earlier than the norm (The time value of money is a powerful thing.....). A boat is a whole in the ground into which you throw money. As long as you realize that up front, you will do OK. We had a 16' aluminum 1963 Texas Maid with with a 85 hp Johnson. We used in for fishing and taking the kids to the lake. When they got into middle school and beyond, they were too busy and committed to go so the boating went away. Realize it is for a season and cherish the time you have with your kids. Do not get a bass boat! You will constantly be getting in trouble with that. I would suggest get an aluminum deep v with a 4 stroke motor to minimize maintenance and don't go into debt to do this. Lots of incomplete projects out there if you are handy. How's that for a bunch of random wisdom?

Going off of what flatlander said, yes it is one of the lower tier units in the state but a low tier AZ unit is better then a high end unit in just about every other state. I’d take the tag you have over all but the best NM tag, and I’d take it over almost all Utah tags. You’ll have a great hunt. Lots of elk in there, essentially every where you look.

The AZGFD starting points are good recommendations. The southern portion of the unit will have higher densities but the northern portion of the unit has some good bulls. Bring glass because a lot of the unit can be glasses from high points which may save you a lot of walking. As far as AZ goes, this is not a trophy unit. Anywhere else in the country it probably would be. Good luck and enjoy.

I’m 50 years old. These attacks on our freedoms have commenced less than 10 years ago. This new, younger generation is the catalyst. Unfortunately, it’s your generation that’s ruined hunting. You guys can’t piss in the woods without posting a status update on Instagram! Hunting and the outdoors was so much better before social media. It was shared with only those people that were important to us and not every Tom, Dick and Harry on Instagram or Facebook! We’d go out, kill a few coyotes, sit around the campfire and talk about the fun. And that’d be it! Fast forward to today, and every second of every day HAS to be posted on Facebook or Instagram so you poor snowflakes can get some instant gratification or base your self-worth on others’ opinions. If guys would just go out, kill some coyotes and STFU, this wouldn’t be an issue. Sorry, but that’s the truth. Hunting here was so much better in the 70’s and 80’s and before the addiction to phones and social media that we see today.

They sell on here often. They’re worth more than $275-$300 and are a MUCH better rifle than a savage axis or howa. Maybe not as accurate but much higher quality. Depends on the condition but i would say $500 +-. Lets see some pics
