6 pointsI was out looking for antlers and came across a nice lion track . We went out the next morning and after a few mile hike the dogs picked up the sent . We cold trailed for about a mile then the wind came up and they lost it . The next day the wind was terrible but the forecast called for some rain . It rained off and on most of the night but stopped about 3am We loaded up the dogs and got to where we thought the lion might be headed around 5:30am . As luck would have it after a short hike the dogs picked up the sent and the race was on ! Mr Tom was treed and freed .

6 pointsPublic land is one of the few things that separate us from just about every other state in this country. If USFS gets their way, it's going to be limited access, pay-to-play all over the state. And AZGFD won't do a thing about it because, well, they don't exactly have a track record of going against their "Big Brother" or whatever it is. Tangent starting here - we pay state, local, federal taxes + a whole bunch more, then we pay extra tax on outdoor equipment, tax on gas - then we get to Roosevelt Lake, and have to buy an additional "Tonto Pass", it's more if you have a boat or RV, just to access - you guessed it - public land. But it's not really "public" is it? We pay for the people who tell us how and when we can use it, but at the end of the day, it's theirs - not ours. And that is broken.

4 pointsI learned my lesson With Coconino. If they aren’t pipe gated or bermed. I’ll take my chances. I’m done with the selective enforcement. You can’t close a road for me and keep it open for ranchers or fs/g&f.

2 pointsI just returned from a grand adventure Campeche, Mexico and it was a fantastic experience! The deep southrn portion of Mexico is totally different from the north.. very different vibe, quite different foods, etc. Oh yea, and loads of turkeys! I was able to take a great Ocellated gobbler the very first morning. The birds would hit the ground about 6:10am and start singing all morning til about 9am. They were also responding to the calls readily both in the morning and the evening. We hunted them classic style off the ground as well as Campeche style by slinging hammocks off the forest floor about 12-15 ft up. That was a new one for me! Very cool way to get off the bare forest floor and out of the turkey’s insane ability to spot you. We saw loads of grey brocket deer sign but just ran out of time to try for a buck. But I’ll be back next spring! Found a few jaguar tracks too. The Ocellated turkey makes 4/6 for me on my way towards the Grand/Royal/World slams with me heading to Vermont and New Hampshire next week to try for a New England Eastern doubler header/double stater! Definitely looking forward to try and get that number 5 gobbler next weekend! Muchas gracias to mi amigo in Campeche for setting everything up for me. What a great time!

2 pointsI’m pretty familiar with woodchute. If a atv passed me on the trail I would not want to be held responsible for my actions. I do think there’s too many roads. If you want to actually close them. Welded gate/big berm I’d be fine with it but this closed for some and open for others is crap.

1 pointNot shot very much works flawlessly, paid almost 1300 for it just don’t use it that much , not a single scratch on it comes with case and receipt, I’d like $820 for it or trade for other hunting stuff, guns, scope, Binos , spotting scope, archery, let me know what you got , can add cash if necessary 5204830726

1 pointThanks guys. It’ll be about a $600 purchase. The wife can’t stand my reloading room so a tool box/work bench it is!

1 pointMy dad collected old military rifles, and mausers were cheap so I was introduced to 6.5x55 early. He ended up with a sporterized 6.5x55 mauser done by Kimber. It was light and handy and was his favorite deer rifle. That is when I stumbled upon the 6.5 cal bullets pre-6.5CM. I learned how overlooked 264 win mag was, and I always wanted to build a 6.5-06. So far no 6.5-06 or 264 win mags in my safe, but a couple 6.5x55 have followed me home. 6.5 seems to be a sweet spot IMO. it has heavy enough bullets to hunt anything in AZ, and has low recoil for most rounds.

1 pointI spend my life with today’s kids, almost daily. There is a lot truth in this post, but it paints all kids with the same broad brush. I know several who will bust their butts on any job available, but they are always busy working, not beating the street for a job. I also know a lot of entitled kids who are “too good” for that type of work. X-box and smart phones do play a role, but they are not a determining factor. Take a look at the parent...entitled parent, entitled child. Good luck Tony, hope you find someone soon. You might want to call the local high school, talk to a coach, or the front office lady, I bet they will send someone your way.

1 pointIn my opinion it has nothing to do with Xbox or a cell phone and 100% to do with parenting and culture and big city culture. Growing up in a small town, we kids were always picking up side jobs and learning construction along the way. Parents nowadays don’t let their kids outside let alone go work a side job and parents put more emphasis on school and activities then they do on getting life skills through work experience as a teenager. I hope when my boys are old enough I have guys like Tony around to chew their butt and give them a chance to make a buck or two. Don’t blame the kids, it’s the parents.

1 pointI know it doesn’t fall under either one of your catagories but I love the Whitt machine muzzle breaks I have.

1 pointI have one kennel for these dogs and as you can see its not your typical kennel. The dog house is 7' x 10' x 9'. it is fully insulated on all six sides and its is equipped with and A/C unit. They have only used it when the female is in heat the last two times. Many of the male's blood line come from Haus Von der Crossner Ranch and I am proud to have that line in my contribution to the breed of Haus Von der Schnee. These animals are very well taken care of. .

1 pointMy goal was to kill a decent sheep with my bow. Everything worked out and found a herd in a good spot first morning My two buddies also killed theirs the Next day with rifles.

1 pointStories like this are more of what my aim was when posting the thread. Just trying to get a handle on how much consideration I really need to give to the "what if" portion of the conversation. At this stage, I feel like our normal heavy hiking boots with gators should be decent insurance against the lowerish odds of a strike. What was most interesting to me about that story is how that dude needed to hike out on his own power and how truly detrimental that could have been for him. Add another mile to that trip and we might be reading a biography instead... Which has always been my biggest hang-up, especially before having the safety net of one of the personal emergency distress devices out there. My InReach stays in my chest rig which stays attached to me at all times in the backcountry, but I might start even start sleeping with that puppy under my pillow. For the sake of conversation - So what does one do if they get bit and can see/feel signs that a significant amount of venom was released while miles deep into the wilderness, in big canyon country, lots of elevation to deal with, etc. while solo and with no SPOT or InReach type of device or... maybe it is busted or dead? Basically, you're on your own and self-rescue is your only option.

0 pointsWas at the Vet's office today and there is a sign says, "Protect your dog from rattlesnake bite! Get them vaccinated!" Is that for reals and if so why not for humans?
