Found a solo gobbler calling Sunday March 31st morning that I called in on S.C. Otherwise just pre-rut flocks with minimal activity.

Tried that too. I did find him on FB but doesn’t seem active on there...just weird of him to not answer texts. Hope everything is okay with him.

my mentor in pursuit of adventure for this young arizona boy-only my parents stood taller. Mike and I would chase the hounds on a lion afoot, sleep on the rocky shores of San Carlos and Roosy and Apach. learned from Mike how to set a trap and ride a horse and play a ringer on softball diamonds all 'round Arizona and getting ranchers to talk 'burro' or lion with a coke and a bag of peanuts. And the best man at my wedding so long ago. he's prob camped somwhere up above Mcguireville-i'll just follow the smell of coffee into camp. soon. Thank you Michael Pock.

I’m in for 5 or so cases, can’t really justify the whole lot. If you find enough people to split it up keep me in mind.

There is nothing to refund. The tag was won in a raffle.

Sorry I havent gotten back to you guys! It was a rough hunt with not know how to hunt that area and unable to glass most of the time due to the entire first day being fogged out and just went walking that Saturday night and got on some tracks and it snowed Saturday night and I went back out on Sunday morning and I got on fresh tracks and found a spike with a couple cows and shot him at about 250 yards. Pack out was about 2 miles and not too steep. The meat tastes great!

The lake just don't have the population like it used to. It's getting better but nothing like it was 20 years ago.

Your premise is often true. But, it can get to the point where the reverse is true in some places. The more dedicated hunters there are that are convinced that further away from roads is better, the more company you will have further away from roads(unless you think you are truly in better shape or far more dedicated than the rest of the hard core hunter population and are willing to go in 6 miles instead of 3 etc). I have seen this trend more and more over the last 5 years through several states, hunts, and just last week shed hunting haha. When I was a kid, we never saw anyone away from the roads and now I seem to see more and more every year. If more and more people are willing to get away from roads, then we may need to flip around and start hunting closer to roads again to get away from people!

My experience there is that the lower areas get hammered. And the rest will eat you alive. The thick vegetation is almost impossible to get through or even see very far. I'm sure if you spent enough time in there you could find some good spots, but man you are going to pay the piper doing it.

Do we really need to debate this on here every time it comes up? It's always the same arguments and it goes around in circles. Then again what else is this forum for during the off-season? If you feel so strongly one way or the other then petition game and fish about it.

Congrats on the tag!!! You are correct on it being once in a lifetime. You were even lucky to pull it with your points. Looks like you had about a 1.4% chance even with all those points! I would think really really hard about hiring Eli at pronghorn guide service. I know you said money is tight but take a loan or sell some guns or something as this is your one chance at the plate for a 87-90” antelope. Could you kill one DIY? Yes for sure. Being able to sort out what is what is the problem. If you don’t really care so much about size then you won’t have any trouble on your own. Antelope are easy to find and easy to kill as you probably know. Telling the difference between and 82” and an 87” is the tough part. Good problem to have though. If you do decide to DIY. I would strongly suggest you take your time off before the hunt. Show up about 3-4 days early even if it’s at the expense of missing days on the end of the hunt. The biggest bucks will get killed right away on opening morning so if you just roll in then you are at a huge disadvantage. Take a camera and take tons of pics of bucks so you can look them over side by side. I’m jealous. I’ve killed a bunch of antelope but never a giant. Sorry I’m really no help in 9 as I’ve only passed through. Should be antelope in all parts of the unit, from the pines to the cedars to the prairie.
