4 pointsSays that guy with bad luck putting in for premium hunts. Completely disagree. Our draw system is one of the better ones out there and I really see no reason to change it. Having a chance to draw EVERY year is what keeps people coming back. If I had to wait a guaranteed minimum of 10 years for another chance to draw I would probably lose my want to hunt antelope all together in this state. Is it fair for everyone? YES! Are some guys luckier than others? Absolutely. Some guys also put in for hunts that they know they have a better shot of drawing as well.

4 pointsSorry guys, someone’s gotta say it. Rifle antelope needs to go to OIL or at minimum a 5-10 year sit out on the draw. I wouldn’t mind seeing bull tags go to a 3-5 year sit out either.

3 pointsMy card got hit for $135, so I got either an early archery bull tag or general late rifle bull tag. Excited either way!! S.

3 pointsI have 24 BP's. Cant draw a goat tag to save my life. I just want 1 in my life. My brother drew last year with 23 an turned in the tag due to health reasons. He Drew again this year ! Just too many applicants and very limited # of tags. Congrats to all those who drew.

2 pointsKilled a cow with my 10 year old son on an otc hunt once. No pack frame and was only my second experience dealing with one in the field. Let me tell you it was BRUTAL!. Killed it on Christmas eve and it literally took all day to get it out and back to camp. Cool thing was cooking some backstrap steaks over the fire that night my boy said "if I died tonight I would die happy". One of my most cherished memories.

2 pointsI thought about this. I also thought about an expansion of the bonus pass to 35-40% of the available tags. If not for all units, then maybe units with premium designations/hunts? Point creep would be severely cut and people with 20+ years of point accumulation would actually have a much better chance to go hunting. This would also leave a fair amount of tags(albeit less than before)for the average guys in the random draw. Probably never happen, just a thought.

2 pointsI totally agree.. too many people in this state and too few quality hunts. I would sign up for that in a heart beat if it meant I had a legitimate chance at a quality hunt every 4-5 years. And I know wrong forum, but if you are going to have 1200 tags for deer, we need to not allow spikes to be harvested or something.... at least in rotating units.

1 pointMorning hunters, I'm looking for some help in Unit 2a, and 2b for a cow elk tag.I went scouting the last few days and truly realized the challenge of this hunt! Access is very limited, if you have any suggestions it would be much appreciated. I'm a glass and stalk hunter, I'm not to big on atv's. So if you did know any ranchers that would give me access I wouldn't be tearing up there land, and I would decrease the predator population if it became available. Thank you, and I'm staying optimistic!

1 pointCongrats! My suggestion, along with the great info herein, is get at least 2 very good/loyal friends who own and have used good pack frames to help you get your elk out! Offer to and feed them well so they feel committed to you, and they'll more than make up for it. It helps if they can actually help "guide" you, but that's not necessarily a requirement. While perhaps on the funny side, it's also a serious suggestion! If you haven't been on an elk hunt and helped take care of a downed animal, you're in for a big surprise as they can be huge animals, especially when you're on your own. Don't underestimate what it takes to get one out and care for it properly.

1 pointYou don’t have to spend a lot to enjoy the hunt. I get my game bags AKA pillow cases at Goodwill for $0.50 or less on 1/2 day. Harbor freight has tarps and other items. Really no need for camo on rifle hunt. Just warm clothes good boots and comfortable sleeping setup. Again there you can double two cheaper sleeping bags to get awesome comfort vs. expensive one. I use moving blankets from HF on floor and on top of bag in really cold nights. With four boys I had to Improvise otherwise I would be broke. Check out Craigslist and other classified ads. Hunter/Outdoorsman are gear nuts and always selling of stuff at good prices. Here is a screenshot of my meat knive set. Not one over $25 but do awesome job. Guess you could say I am RUNNING Cheap but having fun. But like other posts I own good glass Swarovski 8.5x42 EL (hand hold better than 10s)and 15X56 w tripod for long range. But my boys have Vortex which are great for price. Good luck this fall and enjoy the campfire.

1 pointBoots! And like others have said, Camo is not needed on a rifle hunt. Also a good tent and comfortable sleeping gear. That is if you plan on going without a camper. A kodiak canvas tent is money well spent. I spent 2 weeks in mine on an elk hunt. Just happened to turn out my honeymoon was the same elk hunt.

1 pointIf you want to hunt Elk out of state and have a good chance at being successful Colorado is NOT the state to look at. I highly recommend looking at general tags in Wyoming and Montana. You can hunt the rut in Wyoming with a bow every other year with a general tag. The success rates are much higher than Colorado.

1 pointAfter many unsuccessful attempts including some epic failures on the ham hunt this year I was able to tag out on my first javelina. We had them bedded down in some really thick stuff around 9:40 am. We were able to get to 123 yards and started calling. The calls got them up but not enough to get them out of the cover. Over the next several hours we would call and then wait. I had plenty of time to think about how many mess ups I had on javelina hunts in the past and kept thinking please don't mess this up. We waited patiently until approximately 2:47 pm when one of them got up and fed out of the cover to the right. At 2:48 it was over just like that. The curse was finally broken!!! 123 yards with my 6.5 creedmore did the trick. Still a little in shock that it actually worked out. Great day!!!

1 pointGlassing wasn’t working well- snow was 12-20 inches on the hillside. About 11 we decided to start hiking ridgelines and try to find pigs down in the cuts. After a few hours finally located a herd. We snuck in to 143 yards and the rest is history! Fun facts- it was 3 degrees in the morning- the key in the ranger ignition was frozen solid, had to use coffee to get the ranger to turn over several times in the morning.

1 pointDay one of the hunt started with me shoveling snow all day trying to dig my camper out of the yard. Ugg. Day two I finally got out and spent the day humping hills, and glassing with no luck. Day three I spent humping hills, and glassing some more. At the end of the day I finally spotted 2 pigs about 629 yards away. I couldn't get setup for a comfortable shot, so I let them walk. Day four I went back to the same spot I had seen the pigs the day before. After 3 hours of nothing, I got up and moved a ridge deeper into the unit. I sat down and heard a pig squealing over the NEXT ridge. I packed up, and moved to the next ridge. I started glassing, and couldn't find the pigs making the noise. But I did spot a big Male bobcat. I moved in closer for a shot, and spotted the pigs. They were all huddled up under a tree. I setup for a shot, and my 7 saum found its mark at 309 yards. I tried to get on the cat after the pig, but I was too slow. I went over to where the cat was sitting, and found a baby javelina dead. The cat had bit his throat and killed it. All in all it was a great hunt. I probably should have shot the bobcat first, but I've killed plenty of Bobcats, and I really wanted to get a pig under my belt. I capped it, and it's off to the taxidermist.

1 pointI have a 2007 3/4 dodge diesel. Ive been very happy with the offroad ride, especially after I installed Bilstein shocks. Only had an issue one time when my dumbass decided to Ford a river.... if it was Oregon Trail, the game would have been over. Straight front axel fords will rattle your fillings out of your teeth. Avoid at all costs.

1 pointNever hunted bulls there but lots of cows on left over tags. I don't have camera's out there at this time but do have some pics of some good bulls out there. If you did get this tag let me know and I will try to find some for you. I have an early bull tag in unit 1 so I will not be able to help during the early hunts bunt after that I can help. DCM
