1 pointMy 2018 Hunting included several firsts for me. I got my first bow and started archery shooting for the first time in September 2017 and my wife got her first bow in October. Feeling like we were shooting well enough to attempt hunting we got OTC Deer tags and on some vacation time the last two weeks of January 2018 picked an area we had seen deer in before while driving through. Since our ability to hike any real distance is limited and so far our stalking abilities suck, we found a water hole to sit to hopefully ambush a buck that might come in within our bow range. We saw quite a few deer come in, some does within 10-11 yrds from us! We both had shot opportunities at nice bucks but our inexperience along with Healthy doses of Buck Fever prevented us from connecting with only clean misses. We practiced all year and went back out to this spot on December 16. We got in and set up under a big oak about 7:15 and waited and watched, my wife just over an arms length to my right. About an hour later I saw a deer moving through the brush and trees about 70 yrds away. When it dropped into the bowl of the water hole at about 40 yrds I thought it was a doe due to limited visibility and not wanting to move enough to use my binos and spook it out in case a buck was following her in. When it went to the right past a big Juniper tree enough my wife saw it was a buck and tried to whisper "Shooter" which of course I couldn't hear but the buck did and stopped and looked straight at her. After a few moments it looked away and continued to the small water puddle back to our left. When it cleared the Juniper tree to my side I realized it was a buck not a doe. He stopped at the waters edge at 21 yrds and I released an arrow at 8:21 am. The sound of the Swhacker broad head hitting him was louder than I would have thought and seemed like it echoed! He jumped, kicked and took off tail tucked over the earthen dam of the water hole and we listened carefully and in a few moments thought we heard him crash. We forced ourselves to sit for 30 minutes before even going down to look for my arrow that I found covered in blood and buried about 6" in the ground. Following the blood trail about half way to where we found the buck down I saw motion to my left and had to run off what was either a coyote or Mexican gray wolf that looked like he was already scent tracking my buck! We found my Couse buck at about 60 yrds in a drainage double lunged. This is my first ever Deer, a Couse Whitetail and first Archery kill. He's not real big, but real Couse deer aren't big anyway!

1 pointThere’s essentially zero chance you drew a rifle bull tag on 3rd choice. That being said, elk die just as dead with a rifle at 30 yards as they do with a bow.
-
1 pointI’m constantly switching scopes around and rails make it super easy to do so.

1 pointIs there any hope for the Cardinals this year? Probably a better year for hunting than following the local team I suppose. Works for me, 'cuz I done got me another elk tag. Maybe they keep giving me elk tags because my success rate is worse than the Cardinals. Can't wait to find out where I got drawn fer.

1 pointMine too, buddy, mine too. When I hear people complaining about waiting 10-15 years for a pronghorn tag, I want to wring their necks.

1 pointFor elk or antelope? Because I had 25 resident BPs and no goat tag.....
-
1 pointI got a notification from Capital One that a charge from Game and Fish was declined because my card was Locked. That seems to be the ticket if you don't want to draw a tag that you put in for on accident but still want to keep your loyalty and bonus points.
-
1 pointIf you put yours in through the backdoor you are probably not going to get drawn.

1 pointTo Tony's (El Diablo)wife, helped bring in an injured run away this morning. We've been looking for that horse for days

1 pointThe following is what I found in my hunting book about the most severe winter storm in my memory. "The winter of 2009-2010 was the most severe winter in 43 years (since 1967). We had over 14' of snow with +8' coming in less than a two day span. Our cabin experienced damages exceeding $23,000 in value due to the heavy weight of the snow. The wildlife didn't fare much better than my cabin as many were stranded in the deep snow and some did not manage to migrate out to lower elevations to survive the severe winter. There were stories heard that when the snowplow made its way to the Beaverhead ranches there were hundreds of elk in a herd that walked by vehicles to gain access off the snow bound mountain." Additionally my wife and I were snowed in for 4 days before we could get out of the cabin........ but luckily we had food, fire and stored water. The power was out off and on for about 4 days. Contrary to what I would have guessed, the horn quality that year for my archery hunt was disappointing. I guess most of the superior nutrients on the ground went into restoring their bodies from the severe winter, and not to exceptional horn growth. It was a fun 4 days at the cabin though with my wife being snowed in. Wish she was still here on earth to have shared this last storm with me in Alpine.

1 pointHeres some pics I just took of the menu options. I was wrong about max video length, it's actually 10 minutes not 1 minute. All of this is done straight from the cam, along with setting time and date. Time and date will need to be reset when cam is turned off but it's always nice to check it anyway. I love these cams. For the money imo they take real nice pics and video and it's nice being able to view everything right there. You can also do a mass delete of pics on the card or delete individual pics from the camera.

1 pointThis is what they look like. I can put three of them inside the Kali Fanny Pack so they are good size. They do good day and night pics, only real thing I've gotten on them is the bobcat. I'd have to get on my comp but I got some cool pics of a buzzard with his wings out on one. Lots of stupid cows and shade and wind but I like em. I dont put them out too much as I'm trying to get my buddy to make me some lockboxes for them but I put them out on my property and I love them. The screen on the inside is cool. You can put a passcode on them, can plug directly into the computer. These each came with a little aluminum stand, the strap (one in pic has an old dog collar cuz I left the strap at home). A cord to plug into the comp. I run a 64gb card in them but someone told me that can fry the cam so idk if that's true or not.

1 pointG & F always told me, might as well shoot them because population will rise and they will disease and die off anyway.

0 pointsI don't get the bumpstock angst. Did you feel your right to own an AR with a 30round mag was diminished because you can't get a bumpstock? Are bumpstocks accuracy or long range enhancers? To me they re a gimmick pointless to ban and not worth trading political capitol to fight for. Maybe more jawboning about how it was a gimmick that did not make anything more dangerous and that ANTIS were just show boating. I do not feel our 2A rights were in anyway diminished by this silly ban.
