We were bear hunting below the rim one time, dogs trailed up towards the rim and treed. When I was walking up to the tree I started seeing arrows all over the place. It turned out the dogs treed the bear right where all the missed shots at the arrow tree were going. There was arrows all over the place, Probably just as many that were in the tree. I thought it was pretty cool

Knew him fairly well.....always spoke with him at P&Y Conventions over the years. Would alsways thank me for my service as a lawman......won’t ever forget that. About 6 years ago he was on the same flight as me, my wife and kids......my son sat next to him......he was great and talked Bowhunting and the importance of school with him the entire flight. Class act for sure.......and IMO wrote the best Bowhunting mule deer book EVER.......will miss you, DS.

Keep at it. It took me at least a few years before I finally arrowed a buck. And probably ten years before my first big one. It's been six years since I killed the big buck and I finally killed another nice buck this January. It feels like a dream when you work so hard and it finally happens for you, good luck dudes!

You guys can all argue about the armpit, but we all know that if AZ was getting an enema they’d be shoving it right up the Old Pueblo. Probably real close to Speedway and Campbell.

Payson is the armpit of Arizona...

No, I would not expect you to build a case but calling the tip line doesn't take much effort and telling them what you know. They will investigate it themselves.

There are probably more bullets falling from the sky in Phoenix everyday than arrows behind the tree.

I shed hunted hard for the first time last year and picked up over 50 sheds. I would start walking as the sun was rising and wouldn’t make it back to the truck until well after dark. I carried a pair of 10s to glass short distances and I hunted areas I was familiar with that I knew had animals. Don’t over think it and just start walking. Even if I didn’t find anything I was still learning a lot about the areas I’ve hunted for years and I think it paid off during hunting season last year. Pack a lunch and lots of water!

I agree that livestock and ferrel horses have no place on public land, but hybrid dogs have no place either.

With the price of arrows these day, I don't think I'll be shooting them into the new tree. Always did enjoy the one at the center of this topic though. You just knew the hunt was on! To me it's a lot different than trash. People who throw their beer cans out and leave trash around their camps are just lazy slobs, no better than thieves, IMO. This is a single tree with history and tradition to the locals.

    Do Gray Wolves climb trees?

Yes, the fire dept. has a better response time. 😉 Did you hear about the guy that called the sheriff that someone was prowling in his backyard. Dispatch said that they were too busy to respond right away. Five minutes later he called back to say that he shot the intruder. A sergeant and two deputies came lights and sirens. When the sergeant sees that there is no dead guy he says "I thought that you shot him". Homeowner says "I thought that you were too busy".

I have a couple of his books that he signed from the 1980's. His articles were the highlight of Bowhunter magazine for a couple decades. I still have one of his nylon framed three piece packs. Carried out quite a few bucks with it. Sad to hear of his passing.

Iconic tree, been there for many many years. There’s a framed picture on the wall at the cafe in alpine.

Bummer. I guess we'll just have to make a new one.

I talked with a lady down at AZGFD this morning. The instituted a cap on applicants this year and reached it yesterday morning. If you didn't get in you have to wait until next year.

The shooter came back after Christmas and shot a 12 year old 172 class ram. Of course I had family obligations and couldn’t be there!

Nice to see real wood for a change.

Maybe they changed. I tried several years in a row to buy multiple tags in Advance and the Phoenix office would not let me. Something about poaching. I tried to explain to them if I wanted to poach a javelina I didn’t need multiple tags to do it.

Jim AKA "No Worries" was great to deal with. Bought a Sig kilo 2000 from him. He shipped it the next day sent me tracking info and packaged the box perfectly. Thanks again, Jim!

Interesting topic, I'll start by saying I love sheds! The ones I don't have on display in one fashion or another are in a pile I move around on occasion till I find a use for them. Here's some I have. Framing my front door. Just Hanging Wall Hanging Lights Artsy Stuff Wind Chime Door bell and door handle And not sheds but what I call my Coues tree. Like I said at the start "I love sheds!"
