2 pointsI have been out a couple times during archery pig season helping friends and have not seen pig or even fresh sign. After about 2 hours into Thomas' junior hunt we were able to get him onto pigs. Had a little tense moment because it took us about an hour to find it after the shot, but it all worked out. Great day!!!

2 pointsWell I was bummed that I only got out for about a day and a half the first week of the season so Wednesday night I decided to ditch work on the 24th since it was the last day for archery Javelina. I went to a place a little closer to home, but hadn't been in 12-13 years. I started hiking a little after first light and as soon as I got to my glassing spot, picked up a couple mule deer. Two bucks, with one being a really nice 4x4. I watched them to see where they bedded for later, then started looking for Javis. About 5 minutes later I had a group, right where I had last seen the deer, so I was off on a stalk. Like last time, no spotter - always hunting solo these days - so when I got over there I wasn't sure where they had gone but knew they were close. At around 200 yards I had found them again, but when I got there they were no where to be found. I kept poking around and eventually got a "woof" from the thick stuff. Finally got to 20 yards, drew and...my peep sight was sideways. Couldn't see my pins at all. That has never happened in all the years I've been shooting this bow. Oh well, by the time I got that worked out the herd was in the thick stuff and having none of my attempt to woof them back in. I went back toward my glassing spot and remembered there were some heavily used caves & dirt wallows so I went to check those out. Yep, still active. It was getting later in the morning and the wind was picking up so I decided to make a big circle around where I had last seen the pigs. About 300 yards in the opposite direction on a little flat, the ground was covered with fresh sign so I knew I was close to what I can only assume is another group unless they circled me, which is a distinct possibility, but the sign looked like they had been messing around that flat all morning. Anyway, I figured any second I'd hear a woof and right about then I looked up and there was one just standing there feeding about 20 yards away broadside. I knocked an arrow, had the wind right and just had one cholla between him and me, but he was now head-on. Of course now I hear the "woof" off to my left, downwind. The guy I was looking at kinda froze and another was coming in from the right, so I came to full draw knowing he was about to turn. Sure enough, he turned to leave and gave me an easy broadside shot.

2 pointsI have always said, Hunting in Sonora Mexico is MAGICAL! The beautiful variety of mountains where the amazing coues deer live. The cold mornigs and sharing a hot cop of coffee with new and old friends, the food and great hunt stories shared at camp, the ocassional joke that makes everyone laugh etc etc. I just love it! I'm blessed also because I get to know the most beautiful people when I take hunters down there and seeing their faces and their looks when they take their first coues deer or their biggest buck is something I can't explain but makes very happy fills me with satisfaction; all I can say to God and to them is, THANK YOU for the opportunity. Thanks guys, thanks for watching and good luck on your future hunts. Ernesto C.

2 pointsMy son has amazed me twice. Once in his deer and yesterday on a pig. Saw them running at 100 yards so I asked him if he could shoot 275 and he just gave it the yep. One shot drop on a big ol boar. Also had my younger son along for the hunt along with some friends. Great day!

1 pointMe. Lol. Who else loves blackpowder antelope and what is your poison. I shoot a CVA Optima V2 Long Range. 28 inch Bergara Barrel. 123 grains Blackhorn 209 and 250 gr8 Federal Bor Lock Bullets. Last year I got a doe at 263 yards with open sights. Have to obey all of Colorados Blackpowder laws so: open sights only, no sabets, only loose powder, and others

1 pointDraysen (my son) and I spent every weekend and day off since January 1st chasing deer and javelina with our bows. We had more heartbreaking close calls than I want to think about, but never quite could close the deal. By the time the youth javelina hunt rolled around, we felt pretty dialed in on a few herds and just needed the piggies to cooperate. Kembria's first javelina hunt this past November was a new type of hunting "experience" for me, and tested my patience in ways I had not yet experienced. We had her lined up on so many pigs, so many times at close range, but it didn't work out. I took a lot away from that hunt about what my daughter needed from me to best help her, and about patience. We didn't make it out for the opener Friday morning, but were on road before 4:30AM Saturday morning. We got to the top of the mountain just as it was getting light and were treated to watch multiple groups of whitetail, including some solid bucks, as the sun rose. A little before 9:00 the herd of javelina showed up right about where I was expecting them. Kembria made a great shot from long distance. This particular area was not conducive to close shots. After hiking down to her pig, we took some pictures and I sent Draysen back up the mountain to another ridge to look for another herd. It was his turn, and I knew we would be a few hours field dressing and packing Kembria's pig out. The pack out was ridiculous! By the time Kembria and I got back to the truck with her javelina, it was around 2:00. We got her pig in the cooler and called Draysen to check on him. He had seen deer, but no javelina. So we came up with a new plan. It took him about 30 minutes to hike back to the truck. We jumped in and headed about 45 miles north to check on another herd. As we approached the area, Draysen jumped out with his rifle and pack to head up a ridge. Kembria and I headed about 1500 yards down the road to check out another ridge. We hiked up our ridge and proceeded to glass the area. The afternoon started to grow late and the sun was on the verge of dropping below the mountain. I then heard the gun shot and spun my binos back to the opposite ridge, about a mile away. I looked just in time to see my son holding his arms in the air victoriously. He had found a herd with his ears and had "woofed" them in. By the time he got a visual, this old boar, with teeth ground down to nubs, was at 36 yards for a quick shot. Kembria and I made our way to him, reaching him at the last bit of light. It was a great (and exhausting) day that didn't have us back to the truck with field dressed boar until a couple hours after dark. What a great day, but we are all three feeling the effects of it today! "The Crew" hadn't stopped all day to eat, so a late pit-stop at Taco Bell on the way home was definitely in order.

1 pointCongrats. Always cool to see people doing it the old fashioned way. Id like to see more late muzzleloader elk hunts in AZ. Cut half the late rifle tags and make them late muzzleoader tags. G&F still make the money and far fewer bulls will get killed.

1 pointThey should make the same laws here dudes shooting 450 yards with a muzzy ain’t very primitive
