Went to glass for pigs this morning and do some deer hunting. Found no pigs but saw 40 deer. We glassed up a herd that finally had 3 rutting bucks. A spike. A 3x0, and a 160 class 4x4. Put my daughter on the stalk of course to shoot the 4x4 but when she got up there the 2 bigger bucks pushed the spike out of the herd and he came to her at 43yds. With 2 days 3 days left in December and never killing a buck with her bow she got it done. Long pack out. The arrow was all the way to the fletchings but he fell on it and pushed it out. He went 30yds and expired so proud of her and we cant wait for January

I put in for over 38 years and had max bonus points for the 2018 sheep draw and got tag #2 in Unit 28 (south). My son-in-law, Dan Ott, and 26+ year hunting partner, Ed Soyring, accompanied me and the guides, Tyson Hatch and Matt Holcomb of Double H Outfitters. We decided to wait till Monday, Dec 3rd to start hunting to avoid some foul weather and any conflicts with the other hunter in the unit who had been waiting for 51 years for tag #1. Congrats to Craig (and Matt) on his terrific sheep, which scored 189". We saw lots of sheep on the first day and tried a stalk but two big rams got into it and ran off before we were in position. The second day was more discouraging with fewer sheep sighted and the big one from the day before just walking off out of the area. Third day was the charm. High winds kept a herd of 7 rams and 1 ewe pinned down below some cliffs. Three different stalks finally culminated in a 176 yard shot on a very nice ram. Pack-out was easy. He green scored by G&F at 172-1/8” and 6 -7 years old. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ; and, also, to Chris, Matt, Tyson, Ed and Dan.

Looking to sell CZ 452 American RH 17hmr, 6”-9” bipod, 3-9x40 Brunton scope, walnut stock, very small knicks dings in stock, 1 mag, shoots the eyes off flies. $450.00 This is not the newer 455 model, won’t be disappointed.

That’s a tuff one, depends on how well you want to “identify”. If they are skylined or are in good places to spot with 10x out to 1k maybe more. If they are in shadows and brush can be much less, lots of variables. my hunting buddies use 10x and I use 15x’s. I usually have to identify for them when they spot.

Yes it is money well spent and it’s worth it IMO

I know there are a lot of variables in a question like this and the biggest one being the talent of the idiot behind the binoculars but I want to ask anyway. Assuming top quality glass and a clear day what is the effective glassing range of 10x42 binoculars? How far away can you spot and identify a buck using 10x42 binoculars? Might be a different way to word that.

Yes, open up all Antelope areas to night hunting for coyotes. It is called more "opportunities" G&F. 😄

The biggest threat to antelope herds in AZ is habitat fragmentation. Antelope tend to live on land that lends itself to ranching and with the continued growth that this state experiences more and more ranchers are selling off and their lands are being developed. Antelope need huge tracts of open space to thrive. The most helpful thing for antelope would be for AZGFD to encourage ranchers to either sell to state agencies or enter into conservation easements rather than selling to developers.

The most important factor for fawns to survive is adequate hiding cover. When there is no precipitaion, the fawns are really exposed. No hiding cover translates to easy pickings for coyotes. With drought conditions spread out over thousands of square miles, really not a whole lot we can do other than predator control.

Hey all. My brother and I have 4 pp for Wyoming antelope and want to cash in this year. Looking to hear some thoughts on what unit we should choose? We dont want to buy the special tag and obviously would like a unit that has plenty of public land. This will be our first time going to Wyoming so any thoughts, advice, or feedback is much appreciated. Thanks everyone

We had almost 3 inches accumulated at our place at tall wi-wi Dec. 4. Made for a great and memorable elk hunt as we caught bulls bailing off the tops!

So fun to hunt these beautiful Coues Whitetail. I passed on about 10 different back before deciding to take this beautiful deer. Not a big guy but like his shape and cemetery. 94 pounds field dressed, 4 x 4 with a little kicker and nice eyeguards. Thanks for the information and knowledge sharing by all who frequent this site. You all give not only useful information but a love for hunting as well.

The 3 biggest lies in the outdoor world are temp ratings on a sleeping bag, person rating on tent size, and the velocity on a box of factory ammo.

This was my "proposal bear" from last October. I shot it while "camping" with my girl friend and proposed to her that evening. Our wedding rings were made out of it's leg bones!

No me. January is my least favorite season. Sure I’ve killed a few Mule deer and coues deer spot and stalk in January but Dang these deer are always moving and always moving in the wrong direction. And they hardly ever bed. Atleast not in a spot I sneak into. Ill still be out there several weeks but going after javelina first of course.

Yep, this will be my 9 trip to AZ to hunt Coues bucks in January. I have killed four in AZ and one in Mexico. Two of the AZ bucks make PY all DIY hunts on public land, except the Mexico hunt on private land but still DIY. A great time of the year to leave northern Colorado but now I still have a lot of WT hunting to do in Nebraska where I have two doe and one buck tag. I gave up on spot and stalk and mostly hunt from a natural ground blind or from a tree stand. Like most WT hunting, horn rattling and grunt calling can and will work.

I'm very surprised at how few people know the difference between cartridge and a caliber.
