Well it all started when my credit card got hit for $300 from G&F and i knew that could only mean one thing. I wont even say how many points i had because it is just ridiculous how lucky i got but i had under 10 points. I had very little experience in the unit i drew so i knew it was going to be a lot of work and hours beating up my truck and sweating in the heat but that was fine with me. I met some great guys from this site and some of the past hunters in the unit that really helped me out a lot. I don't need to mention names but they know who they are and i appreciate all of the help. Scouting proved to be much more challenging than I expected. My unit received record rainfall which was very good for the area but it did seem to spread some of the animals out. Fast forward to the hunt and opening morning had me and my hunting buddies on the same glassing spot we were at the weekend before and after about an hour i glassed up a nice Ram. My goal for the hunt was to shoot a nice mature Ram and this one looked great to me so off i went on my first and last stalk on a desert sheep. Made it to 400 yards and waited forever for them to stand back up because they were out of view from my shooting location. Once he stood up I started shooting away and hit him a good three times. He went out of view but the guys i had watching him said he was hit hard and after a couple minutes the boys yelled in the radio that he was dead. I couldn't be happier with him as he is a great ram but it is a little bitter sweet that it is all over. Time to start putting in for Rocky Mountain Sheep.... G&F aged him at 8 years old. Thanks again to my family, and friends for all the help. Hope everyone enjoys the pictures.

I think what PETA'S point is. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

I found two female pits who had obviously had a few litters in the past way out between Canyon and Apache Lakes this morning coming back from a site. They would not let me touch them. I got within 3', but no closer. Sure wish I could have wrangled them in the truck to bring them back in. After 10 minutes of me coaxing, they took off. Bums me out seeing people dumping animals. My dogs are family.

My preference is H1000 or Magnum over Retumbo for the 168's. I have used all 3. Now if you are pushing a much heavier bullet like the Berger EOL's Retumbo is the go to due to case capacity. By the way I really like Magnum, it has also been very stable and ball powder is great to work with fast, smooth, never gets stuck when metering.

That is Amazing! Your son is very respectful and very deserving of that prize. You and your wife have done a great job raising him. Congrats!!!!!

It was his time to go. Should have dumped him last year and done everything to keep jd Martinez. But let us be reality. It doesn’t matter what the lineup looks like if you have a guy like boxburger closing.

Shot approx 200 of these bullets (all hand loads) 168 grn outa my Remington 700 sendero 7 mag @ 3017 fps. .5 MOA @ 100 yds and have shot out to 950 yds with great results. No results on animals since I can’t get drawn if my life depended on it lol.

I have used the 168 LRAB in my 7 mag. I have taken three elk and one coues deer with them. None have been long range, all the elk under 250 yards and the coues was 350. No problems with the bullets themselves, all one shot kills in the lungs. Two elk and the coues dropped in their tracks while one elk went about 20 yards and tipped over. I used RL 22 and was getting 2850 fps. A little slow but with .5 moa at 100 yards from the bench, I was happy with that load.

Thanks Guys. That place is a blast on the late hunt. I was sick going into it , Got lucky and killed first afternoon. Bad cold and Asthma so I couldn't go to far. breathing was tough. Guide picked great spot and we only went 400 yards from truck to a point. We were going to work our way around the point glassing. We saw deer right away. So we never moved except lower as we had tall pines in our way of looking further out. Just as the Sun went over the hill a buck came out,I couldn't tell how good he was as I only took My 10's with me and no pack. Guide immediately said He's a shooter. Hill was steep so I sat my rifle up on His pack on end standing up (the pack standing)He said 250ish in a dark opening thats why I couldn't tell how good He was , so I got ready and One shot Bob came true again . I have been lucky and killed maybee my last 10 animals with one shot.. Easy haul out worked great. I slept all day Sat in camp with My nyquil and felt better on Sunday so I went out to help glass and experience the Bab Got some good hiking in and saw ton of deer and good bucks. Slept all day Monday too butt cold kicked back in. Wanted to stay but didn't want to catch Pnemonia or however You spell. Left after dinner got home at 2 AM. Tues. morn . Worked Wed. then off for 4 more days. Still getting rid of that cold. Allmost gone. I was lucky and happy with my deer , Just wish I could off stayed. Thanks too all that Made it happen.....BOB!

Welcome to the site & good luck on your hunt. I've killed a couple spot & stalk hunting, but most of mine (muleys & coues) have been sitting ambushes. The same tactics you used in Oklahoma & NY can make you successful in Az. The main difference is that the deer population & concentration is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less here than either of those states. It's not uncommon to sit for a day or two and see nothing but birds & squirrels here, but then other days it seems like every deer in the county is around your stand. Deer here have much larger ranges than their eastern cousins, so a "good spot" will often not have deer everyday. If deer pass through it consistently every 3-5 days, it's still a good spot. Just my experience, but most of my trail cams will show daily use for several days in a row, then almost nothing for 2-7 days, then they're back again. It's a waiting game and long hours are the rule of thumb. I've had opportunities at small bucks within minutes of getting in a tree before, but usually I sit for 2-4 days before I kill something. My buddy that I hunt with just killed a 90" coues deer this August on his third morning. A few years before that I killed a 113" one from the same stand on the 3rd or 4th morning, can't really remember now. Last year he killed opening morning and I got mine on the fourth evening. Just gotta commit and sit it out all day. Never know when one will show up. As you're probably going to have very limited scouting opportunities, it's not a bad idea to set up an ambush in a high saddle or on a ridge top overlooking a trail in a spot where you can also glass for the first couple days. Scout & hunt at the same time. If your glassing reveals deer hanging out in a certain area you can either stalk them or switch over and set-up an ambush over there the next day. There's no rule saying you have to hunt one way or the other, you can mix it up. I used to glass during the mornings & into the afternoon & then sit in saddles the last 1-2 hours of the evening if I hadn't found anything to spot & spook yet.

Can’t tell for sure. but if you told me the spot where you found it maybe that would help
