4 pointsToday I wanted to take a moment and be grateful for the CWT community. It seems weird to say something like that about a hunting forum, but it has become something much bigger than that. This year has brought a ton of new experiences for my family. Luckily the CWT family has been there for us all along the way. In January I was pig hunting when I got a picture message from my wife of my son’s gashed and bloody lip from a bike wreck. That started a series of events that lead to him being diagnosed with a condition called CMT 1A and resultant hip dysplasia. Since that time he has had one reconstructive surgery with another to take place in 10 days. I have shared parts of this on CWT and since I first brought it up tons of people have offered help and support. Just last night Adam leant is his crossbow so Hunter could squeeze in one more day of hunting on a donated late archery bull tag. We headed straight from his house to Sean’s and picked up his doe skull which Draysen cleaned for Hunter free of charge (btw he does awesome work, highly recommend him). Earlier this month Hunter has a donated cow tag and Houston spent morning and night for weeks before patterning elk for him and then spent the entire opening day out with us. Eddie Corona from OE4A provided not one but two elk tags and took time out of his very busy schedule to get the paperwork done for those and get them to us on short notice. Stanley and others provided tips and suggestions for Hunters first deer hunt on the Kaibab this year. There are so many people who have offered support, encouragement, prayers and anything else we could need. I even think AZKiller has offered some encouragement. I know it sounds cliche but it’s true that folks around here have become like family. During a year that could have been pretty challenging, it’s been the opposite, surgery has been a footnote to all of the great things that have happened! So thank you. It’s made all the difference. God bless all of you!

4 points145 dollars, a car hart jacket that was barely burned by a campfire (one sleeve) I have a denim patch kit you could fix it with pretty easy; and a crawdad trap that is gently used. Comes with instructions and a family recipe.

1 pointAfter hunting a specific buck For 3 days with little to no deer to be shown for it I switched hunting areas and met up with my buddy Todd who had found an area in his scouting that had a few mature bucks in it. It payed off and that evening we killed this solid buck. I’m beyond thankful for friends who are willing to grind out the crappy days and come through when I needed it! Thanks fellas!

1 pointHad a great weekend watching my son take his first buck at 440 yards. We had a few other opportunities at some bigger bucks but we couldn't get it to work out. With just a couple days to hunt we decided to take the opportunity given to us. I am so proud of Thomas for working hard and staying positive through the ups and downs of this hunt!!! On a side note the game wardens down south dress a little strange 😀 YouCut_20181111_194353110~2.mp4

1 pointMan, you have it figured out! I shoot all the dam time, and seems like all I do is wear out barrels and turn money into noise. I have tried Leupold's CDS and like it, it is just too tough to match shooting conditions with those laser-cut dials (unless you do your zeroing and hunting in the same spot). Using Strelok now, and it seems pretty good. forepaw

1 pointNov 13th in S AZ, mid 20's that morning. Yep bore was not overly warm at 10:00 AM when my son spotted a small buck at 450yds. He got set up with trigger sticks and I called his dial up for next shot opportunity at a 350yd opening in the trees. I told him "take the shot if you get one". I am on my new Meopta 12X (nice glass, great glass for the $) and the buck is just about through the opening and BOOM in my right ear(good ear). I was on it and watched as the doe came out of trees a little lower down and the buck trailing her was not doing well from what I could tell watching glimpses of him through the trees. For maybe a minute or so no sign of the buck then I see him pile up just above where I last saw his doe friend. My son had not shot that rifle before and had done limited shooting in last two years since Army discharge. We did get him to a PRS match in SEPT. Shot was dead on, took the buck mid ribs angled through lungs liver and out paunch on off side. 270 WIN 145 gr through and though at 350. Not that far of a shot but far enough that having me spot the shot and watch what the buck did next was a big help. Cover was thick enough that without eyes on through the whole event it would have presented challenges for a solo shooter to keep track of the buck in that terrain.

1 pointGreat write up on the ups and downs of learning to hunt Coues. This site has so many guys who make it look easy. Like you, I’ve benefited from the knowledge they share. Congrats on both deer.

1 pointI reckon this won't go over well, but the thing I don't fully understand is how people can 'miss' multiple times at a distance they obviously can't shoot and feel good about continuing to shoot. I watched a guy miss 10-12 shots this last Sat, then shoot 3 more about 2 hours later (he got that deer by god). I was skinning a bear at that point that we choose to get 250yrds from vs shooting the exact same distance that he was shooting from at a deer at the top of the same canyon. What really confuses me is he had a ridge 300yrds closer that he had to get to anyway to collect the animal. Turning a 700+ into a 400+in just a matter of 20-30min (way less than the time period of all the shooting going on). I cringe at the thought of how many of those misses are actually hoofs and legs that at that distance the shooter isn't going to investigate unless the animal hits the dirt. I even heard his spotter say at one point, 'I think you hit him', then a good 5 min and 3 shots later, ' I don't think you did'. That's just too far if you aren't sure and just stop shooting. Anyway, for those of you with the skill the practice under all of the conditions that we all know happen--that's awesome, but the glorification of it and the equipment alone doesn't make it possible for the other 98% of us and it's unfortunate that some of % of that, thinks they can and trys to the detriment of the those animals wounded and ultimately to our opportunity. Good luck all!
