4 pointsWe had a great time on the 12aw youth hunt this past weekend. Got in around 11 PM Thursday night. Set up camp in 18 degree weather. Got it done in an hour opening morning. We saw 25-30 deer the first hour, and he made a nice one shot kill on this one at around 100 yards.

2 pointsIt didn't quite all go to sausage (out of the smoker and chilling down now). The traditional tenders for breakfast.

2 pointsBest thing I have done for my chinsaw bad luck was only using the no ethinal premixed fuel at Home Depot. It won’t fix your problem now but maybe in the future. I think sitting for weeks in my garage with regular gas and without running it wasn’t healthy on my previous chain saw and 2 previous lawn mowers for that matter.

1 pointAnother newbie asking for advice I know, but here is the story. I’m an Southeastern whitetail and turkey hunter looking to try a West bow hunt. I’m looking at an archery javelina and deer hunt in Arizona. I’ve been doing as much internet scouting I can from across the country. I have been looking at trying units 31,32, or 33 for Javelina and Coues this coming year. I will be taking a two wheel drive van. I was hoping for advice about a unit that leans itself to a mostly hiking hunt that a 2wheeler can get to. Game and Fish “where to hunt” has been a great place for me to start. Happy Valley in unit 33 looks interesting. They say something about Redrock Tank for hiking in hunt. Does anyone know where or what that is? I haven’t been able to locate it from KY on the interweb. I know I’m asking a lot with really nothing I can give back. I hope to do this kind of hunt more than once, and I would hope to share more later. Plus, I’m more than willing to help if anyone wants to hunt whitetail on WMA land in KY. I do that kind of hunt pretty successful every year. I know it is not what all you guys need, but it’s all this Western newbie can offer right now. I’m going to give it a shot no matter what, but any help would be very helpful. I’m really excited about giving your guys country a try. Thanks!

1 pointWell short story. Hunted three hard days. One missed shot opportunity. Had to work 2 days. Watching the clock waiting for the time to get back to my glassing spot. Hoping for redemption. Finally Wednesday morning came and 10 minutes into glassing turned up 3 coues bucks feeding with 2 muley bucks. Range 255. One shot later from the Savage 7MM and patiently/impatiently waiting to make my way across the canyon to retrieve him. Not my biggest coues but a tough fun hunt. One heck of a pack out of the canyon. Big thanks to Josh for dropping everything and helping me with the pack out. Well I just bought a new truck and was waiting to get back on the board with my second coues deer. Does anyone on here know where I can get a coueswhitetail window decal. Thanks.

1 pointAfter not drawing a tag in the initial draw and having no hunts this fall I decided to put in for one of the left over tags. I was lucky enough to get a whitetail tag down on the border as my second choice. From the start my intentions were to use my custom XP-100 pistol in 6.5 CM and shoot the first buck that provided an opportunity. I shot this little guy at 1:00 PM opening day while he was feeding on a hillside at 188yds. After not hunting whitetail in over 25 years I had forgotten how small there bodies were. Not a trophy but will make some great jerky and sausage.

1 pointDon't pay much attention to the velocity on the box or the chrono ...the chrono is a good starting point and good to make sure you have low ES. Reloading i try to keep mine below 10fps. Even the better ballistic apps need some fine tuning to get the drops right. Go out and validate the drop with your rifle at extended range (the further the better) and mess with the app till the drop calculator match what your actually seeing in the field... also I could never get the cheap apps to do this much past 600yards. I would go with applied ballistics or bullet flight they have been way easier to tune to my rifle/loads and way more accurate than any other apps. You have to know how your rifle shoots. I've never been abe to plug in the speed off the chrono and the conditions and been able to hit what I was aiming at past 600- 700yards. It all takes alot of shooting and recording to get it all to line up. Once you do tho it's cool to see how well you can range dial and shoot and hit.

1 pointThe 3 biggest lies in the outdoor world are temp ratings on a sleeping bag, person rating on tent size, and the velocity on a box of factory ammo.

1 pointGreat season! Got into a herd having a full blown party, opening morning (a week late in 7w this year for the early muzzy hunt in there) Had some bruisers just out of bow range. Got into big bulls every single day and no shortage of amazing elk hunting! Met some cool hunters in the field, earned some blisters and bruises. Found a good shed, hiked through God's most beautiful country, I had a great time overall. I called in many bulls, saw some of the most jacked up bulls I've ever seen, took a shot and missed at a 3x6 that was so strangely cool.. and an hour after that, I managed to slock this little guy on Monday evening. Ranged him at 86 yards, as I began to punch the trigger I noticed a blade hanging out if the rubber band..... Talk about a dilemma..... I punched the trigger anyway. Bull ran 40 yards and spin-out dead! Had him half quartered up before my fellow archers showed up, 2 trips down the mtn, and we had him bagged and tagged and hanging in the cool air back at camp by 1am. My 4th archery bull and I really really enjoyed the hunt. Just got home to do laundry and work tomorrow, then back up the hill to call in another bull for my buddy.

1 pointNate picked up this tag during the draw and I grabbed the same tag through leftovers. We put in crazy hours on maps and probably 3000 texts in the past 3 months. We hit up our camping spot on Thursday and did a quick run through of the area, spotted a bear which is always cool. Opening day came and we had passed up 4 decent bucks til this guy came out. As soon as we found him he quickly bedded down. We worked our way over couple draws and got setup at 198 yards. Didn’t have to wait long, bit 40 minutes and buck stood up, Nate shot and it was all over. Congrats to Nate, buck is equal to the amount of time he put down scouting and prepping. We didn’t see much that afternoon just a bunch of does and small bucks. Sat morning our buddy came out to help me fill my tag. We covered ground and had passed up 12 bucks til both Nate and Josh spotted a decent bedded buck at the same time. Worked our way over, again it was a waiting game for him to get up, after an hour the buck got up and bullet flew true at 238 yards. I’m a sucker for g3’s, when I see them longer than 3 inches I wanna shoot.

1 pointThere may be a steak or two and some red chili but I make some pretty awesome jerky and sausage (grin). I shot a fork horned muley out of his bed last year that I thought would be tender so I cut most of the best steaks to keep. It was without a doubt the toughest deer I've ever tried to eat and ended up in sausage. We'll see how this guy is before going down the sausage road.

1 pointI have MANY questions on this post.... 1. What? 2. Are you being serious? (If "Yes", see #5) 3. Are you being sarcastic? (Similar to #4) 4. Are you just messing with us? 5. Are you drunk?

1 pointI want to say thanks to all the guys that take part in this forum. You guys made researching this hunt easy. Coues Whitetail was everything it was supposed to be and more. I scouted this buck in July and found him on the second day of my hunt. I was able to get close (150 yards) and seal the deal with one well placed shot. I'm very proud of this buck. The warden was able to age him between 6 - 8 years which makes it all the better. Thanks for the conversation as always and enjoy the pictures! Reece

1 pointA little bit of the history I have with him. I originally glassed this buck up in 2013. I've managed to keep tabs on him since then, believe it or not. In 2016 he was certainly the caliber of buck I wanted to take, but my hunting partner had the same tag with a much bigger buck to hunt in a different area. So it was a no brainer for us to go after his buck opening weekend. We were lucky to kill his buck opening weekend in 2016. Due to other obligations, I couldn't get back out into the field for my own tag until that Monday. Even then, I didn't have the time to get in and hunt this particular buck so that Monday was just a day hunt in a different area. That day Mark and I found a buck I just couldn't let go. So I filled my tag that day and wasn't able to hunt this buck. In 2017 I was fully committed to taking this buck, as I was pleasantly surprised he was still alive. I scouted and hunted him hard, to no avail. Then 2018 came and as luck would have it, he was STILL there and just as special as he was the previous two years. VERY fortunate to follow a buck this long and given ALL of the odds working against me and him during those 5yrs, I got him. My summer and pre-season scouting paid off..

1 pointI was up hunting for a cow elk for a few days and found a nice mulie kill on an open slope. It had crows picking at it, which was how I spotted it. Surprised to see it in such an open area and it hadn't been found before. If you want location NV, call me and I'll tell you where it was. 602-319-4096.

1 pointThe paper threw me at first, but definitely Guatemalan. Bust it up...look for seeds. Crushed red pepper, leaning towards Honduran.
