The new father of 3-week-old twins in fact donated his 7W tag to Heroes Rising Outdoors / Hunts for Heroes this morning. Good for him in supporting his wife in this new chapter in their lives! He did have Point Guard, so all is not lost. Thanks again for thinking of us, Troy! Your generosity will put an Arizona vet out there in the middle of bugling bulls in some awesome country ... FYI, 'tho this is last minute, if any one (experienced with archery elk hunting and/or Unit 7W) is free this Thurs afternoon - Sun/Mon (Sept. 20-24) and would like to be part of an amazing experience, give me a call ASAP! >>> (480)760-3868 I just returned from several elk camps near Flagstaff today. Two disabled Arizona vets were successful using their own crossbows over the weekend -- one tagged a cow (his first ever elk!), the other a nice branch-antlered bull. Yee Haw! --- Tom

I was able to get my second archery bull this weekend and biggest to date. Opening morning my dad and uncle called in a 5x5 with split eye guards to 20 yards but I wasn’t ready to fill a tag this soon. Passed on a couple spikes at close range later that day. Saturday was very slow with only a couple bugles early in the morning. Sunday morning a bunch of bulls were bugling around us but not consistently. We saw a good 6x6 following a cow 200 yards away across a meadow. I tried cutting them off and got to 50 yards when a cow I never saw busted me. The bull started trotting off and my dad stopped him with a cow call. I guessed 60 yards and clipped a cedar right in front of him. Clean miss. We never got back into elk that morning and we headed back to camp. Around noon my dad and I decided to walk the ridge above camp hoping to find a bedded bull. My dad spotted a bull raking a tree about 100 yards below us. My dad stayed on top of the ridge cow calling and raking a tree while I snuck down there to 40 yards. I found a small opening to sneak an arrow through the thick timber and connected. He went about 40 yards and piled up in a dead tree. The swhacker went right through the middle of his heart. Always a fun time in the woods in September. Hopefully we will be back next year and will have more time to spend up there. Good luck to the rest of the lucky hunters with an elk tag in their pocket! Sorry about the side ways pictures. I can never figure that out.

I have four tickets to tonight's Dbacks game against the Rockies that I am not going to be able to use. Great seats on lower lever, straight up from 3rd base (section 129). I can transfer them to you electronically by emailing them to you. You will need to have or download the free MLB Ballpark app to pull them up them at the gate. Please don't take them unless you know you will use them. Thanks

We have a few jr tags in there so there might be (3) less Muleys in the unit when we’re done. On a more serious note I’ve spoken to both WM’s of the unit and both have said the muley population is the worst they have seen it. They added (10) tags to the December hunt to take away from the general tag #’s. I’m not sure adding 10 tags to the Dec Hunt was a smart decision.

If there’s no snow, you’ll find elk throughout the unit. They’ll just be in places most wont go as they recover from the rut. If heavy snows hit early, your best bet will be in the transition country. Bit early to plan, but I think the weather will determine you strategy. I’ve seen 2 foot of snow up at Woods Canyon around Thanksgiving. I’ve also seen dry, warm hunts. Every year is different.

It's all the citiots that move here and want to be outdoorsman. Real country folk are raised to respect the land. Don't know what the phuk mexico has to do with it.

lol I would not have it in there if it was plugged into power. I would guess it weighs 300 Lbs. Maybe a little less. Me and another guy lifted it out of my truck.

It's been quiet and HOT in 4B...with an occasional bugle. The forecast is for clouds, chance of rain, and cooler middle of next week, which should get it going. The fall equinox/estrus is the 22nd, but also a full moon. Hopefully there will be enough cloud cover to squelch the full moon affect. At any rate, we will have a blast in the elk woods.

Probably somebody with an eBay store. May be worth a look to search for your type of camera and see if any of the sellers are located in az

How in the heck carries a grinder in the woods? Oh a professional thief. I wish one of you computer genius's would invent a camera with a compositor that would knock someone on there butt when they touch, 480v would be great.. Can't wait to check my blind and ladder stand to see if some piece of shot dirt bag stole them again this year. We will see.

The first time I went to Mexico we were glassing for about an hour and happened to look down and there were several deer with a few decent bucks just chilling within 100 yards. They didn't have a care in the world that we were sitting above them. That is what I love about hunting coues deer in Mexico.

I’m a bow hunter so once my quarry knows I’m there the games over. I think 300-500y is too close if it can be avoided. I’ve seen them notice movement and bugger out at those ranges

Looks like a drainage that had some water run down it and washed the leaves out of the middle

330 or better saw one that might make 350 had this same tag about 10 years ago before they had any of the other hunts in this unit for elk 350 bulls were very common could be found all over. The game and fish have ruined this unit ., Oh well they are creating hunting oppertunities so they say.

Anniversaries too. Mine is 8/27. First couple years the wife said she didn't mind me being gone for archery deer.... there's a different song playing these days.
