My son decided he wanted to put in for archery antelope this year. He was able to get a new bow as he had outgrown his old one over the summer. He was able to practice, and put his time in. We were able to scout, although we had not been able to find any shooter bucks. We decided to hunt an area we had not been able to scout. We were able to get on a few different bucks, but he was not able to close the deal. We decided to go back to the area we had scouted in hopes some bucks had moved into the area. We were able to locate 8 bucks by 8:00 am. He was able to seal the deal on this buck! Very proud of him. He put in about 18 miles in three days of hunting, and never gave up.

Had a slow start to the season. Not much movement for the first couple days, but we both had opportunities at very small bucks which were let to walk by. Then on day 3, my hunting partner Jeff had a group of three bucks walk by him about an hour into the morning. The biggest of the 3 was at the back herding the other two little guys in front of him. They passed by giving a 20 yard shot and Jeff double lunged a very cool, mature fork horn buck.

With the big game hunts winding down I have begun to shift gears in yo predator hunting and trapping. Was able to shoot a young dog last weekend with my 204 savage. I set my trap line about two weeks ago and it has been very in eventful until today. On the last trap I had this monster bobcat. This is a location that pretty consistently produces at least one cat a year. It was so big I didn't even worry about sexing it and wasn't until I was skinning it that I realized it was a female. By far the biggest female I've ever seen.

Found a couple of coveys of Mearns in Unit 1, by springerville. dang things scared the heck out of me. Does anybody know if they transplanted or are natural?

I'll post up some photos when I get better service. I have to hold my iPad above my head and in the corner of the blind to get enough service to post some updates for ya'll. The buck I'm after is pretty "special". If I can't get it done with a bow, I'll be back with a rifle in a couple months. Funny fact, he spends most of his time with a herd of muley bucks. I've seen his herd twice, but he hasn't been with them. And on a side note, scent killer works pretty well as a makeshift misting system
